SGAC membership has been steadily growing throughout the years. Among our membership there are many incredible young space enthusiasts who should be recognised for their hard work and contributions to SGAC. In December 2009, the SGAC Executive Council decided to acknowledge one member per month for his or her outstanding work and contributions to SGAC and its goals, and we continued this until today.

Lauren Napier

SGAC is proud to present the SGAC April 2015 Members of the Month: Lauren Napier, member of the Space Law Project Group

Lauren Napier is a masters student of International Relations at Webster University in Vienna, Austria. She is currently working on her master thesis on suborbital flight regulations. She is an active member of the SGAC Space Law and Policy Project Group, a contributing writer for Space Safety Magazine and a volunteer for the World Space Week Association. Lauren has attended various United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space sessions for SGAC and has published works on interplanetary contamination, Analog Planetary Research, and suborbital flight regulation.

Ana Raposo, SGAC Project Coordinator, nominated Lauren:

“Lauren has an extremely active role in all the projects she is involved, showing great dedication to her role as a member of the Space Policy and Law group, not only in daily and regular activities but when extra tasks are required. She maintains a strong presence in social media, promoting the group activities but also advertising conferences, job offers and several opportunities that might be interesting to the group members. She is also very professional and responsive and it is very easy to work with her as a member of a team. She definitely deserves to be rewarded for all the great work she has been doing promoting and representing SGAC.”

Here's Lauren's reaction:

"I found out I was member of the month the day the UN COPUOS Legal Subcommittee ended. It was a great and unexpected way to end an amazing two weeks of space discussions at the United Nations. I am so happy to be involved with SGAC and I thank the entire SGAC team for the opportunities they have given me, including this recognition."

From the SGAC co-Chair, Stephanie Wan:

"I'm excited that Lauren was selected as the Member of the Month -- Lauren's active contributions through the Space Law and Policy Project Group has helped build upon what the co-Founders of the group initiated. While I was not able to attend the recent COPUOS Legal Subcommittee meeting, I have continued to only hear praises and about the positive impression Lauren left while representing SGAC at the meeting! Thank you for your being such a great SGAC member and leader to the Space Law and Policy Project Group!"

SGAC Executive Director, Minoo Rathnasabapathy, added:

"Lauren is very dedicated and passionate SGAC member and plays an active role in the Space Law and Policy Project Group. Lauren recently represented SGAC at the 54th session of the Legal Subcommittee of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), where she did an outstanding job in reporting SGAC's recommendations related to the discussions. Lauren's enthusiasm to engage and work with new SGAC members is commendable. Our networks grow in strength and stability thanks of her initiative. This nomination is very well deserved! Congratulations Lauren!"
