SGAC membership has been steadily growing throughout the years. Among our membership there are many incredible young space enthusiasts who should be recognized for their hard work and contributions to SGAC. In December 2009, the SGAC Executive Council decided to acknowledge one member per month for his or her outstanding work and contributions to SGAC and its goals, and we continued this until today.

SGAC is proud to present the SGAC October Member of the Month: Natalia Vargas Cuentas (Bolivia) and Paola Andrea Escobari Vargas (Bolivia), National Points of Contact for Bolivia.

Natalia Vargas Cuentas (Bolivia)

Natalia Indira Vargas Cuentas is an Electronics Engineer of the Military School of Engineering(Escuela Militar de Ingenieria EMI) in La Paz Bolivia. She did her professional internship in the Bolivian State entity AASANA- Administration of Airports and Auxiliary Services to Air Navigation, working in the area of Telecommunications, Electro-mechanical and Telecommunications.She was the organizer of the first and second congress of Aerospace in Bolivia (Aerospace Bolivian Conference- ABC) (July 2014 and July 2016).
She has professional work experience as a Project Engineer in the areas of video surveillance, fiber optics and structured cabling projects in NEXUS TECHNOLOGY BOLIVIA S.A. She is currently working as Assistant Researcher of the Universidad Peruana Cayteno Heredia and is Co Investigator of the project: "Cost effective portable system for early diagnosis of autism in children", which is currently funded by FINCyT (Fund for Innovation, Science and Technology), Peru. And also she is pursuing her studies in Remote Sensing and Geo-information Systems (RS & GIS) as part of Master in Space Technology Applications (MASTA) in Beihang University (BUAA), Beijing, China.
Her areas of interest include Telecommunications, Bioengineering, e-Health, Bioinformatics, Video Surveillance Systems, Aerospace, Analysis of Satellite Image, Design of Nano-satellites and aeronautical transmission systems.

Natalia was nominated by Marco Antonio Cabero, RC South America:

I am pleased to nominate Natalia as member of the month, because of her compromise and effort during the organization of the first SG Bolivia which was the first National Event that joined people form different cities with the purpose of knowing more about the Space Activities in Bolivia. This contribution is making the SGAC to be known in the academic Bolivian area, motivating and inspiring more students to do be curious about the satellite technology. It has been a privilege to know this brilliant and dedicated person and NPoC. I nominate her and ask that you please call on me if I can further assist you in this regard."

Here's Natalia's reaction:

I feel very proud to have been selected as the SGAC Member of the Month for October 2016. As one of Bolivian NPoC, I want to say that we are really proud, because we have the opportunity to contribute with the main objective of our country and Bolivia is taking giant steps in their mission to promote knowledge of space science among the young students and professionals. This distinction commits me harder towards the activities of SGAC. Along the way, we have known many young enthusiasts, like us, this has been the best part of our work.

 

Paola Andrea Escobari Vargas (Bolivia)

Paola has studied electronics engineering in the Higher university of San Andres in Bolivia, after that a training in the China Academy of Space Technology and now she is pursuing a MSc in RF and Microwave Engineering in the University of Surrey in the UK. She has worked in the Bolivian Space Agency and at the end of her Master programme, her desire is to continue to work for the Bolivian Space Agency. 

Paola was nominated by Marco Antonio Cabero , RC South America:

I am pleased to nominate Paola as member of the month , because  I have found her dependable, efficient, and unfailingly punctual during the organization and execution of our SG Bolivia. Her support has been a key role in this activity, motivating the students in different universities to join the event.  I believe these characteristics represent what we state in the SGAC, and I am pleased to nominate her as member of the month."

Here's Paola's reaction:

As part of the Bolivian Space Agency is my willingness to motivate other students and young professionals to study and work in space related areas. It is a pleasure and a challenge to be the National point of contact of my country and be part of a high skilled team. I try my best to spend the necessary hours to develop and ensure the growth of the Space generation in my country.

“We have heard great news of activities in the South America region in the past few months. One of these news related to SG[Bolivia], SGAC's first local event in Bolivia with a new format and support of the Bolivian Space Agency. It is great to see our NPoCs taking initiative to not only start events like this, but also form valuable partnerships in the process. I hope that both Natalia and Paola continue pursuing these events in the future, and help the SGAC community in Bolivia and South America grow stronger."
