SGAC membership has been steadily growing throughout the years. Among our membership there are many incredible young space enthusiasts who should be recognised for their hard work and contributions to SGAC. In December 2009, the SGAC Executive Council decided to acknowledge one member per month for his or her outstanding work and contributions to SGAC and its goals.

We are proud to present the June 2011 Member of the Month: Iulia-Elena Jivanescu (Romania)

Iulia_MOM_June_11Ms. Jivanescu, who joined the Romanian Space Agency as a research assistant within the Spatial Applications Department in July 2008, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in geography from the University of Bucharest and a Master of Science degree in geographic information systems and remote sensing from Babes Bolyai University. She is also a graduate of the International Space University’s Space Studies Program 2009, and is currently earning her second Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering at Polytechnic University of Bucharest. Jivanescu’s areas of interest and study are lunar science and exploration.
Andy Bacon, Alex Karl and other members of the NEO Working Group nominated Iulia:
The recent 'Future of Planetary Defense' public outreach event held in Bucharest Romania would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of Iulia over the weeks and months leading up to the event. She took care of all the obvious and less obvious tasks in Romania to make sure the event goes smoothly. Her professionalism, skills and enthusiasm made sure the event went indeed incredibly smoothly and was highly successful. Considering she also had a very high workload related to the organisation of the PDC, it is all the more exceptional what she did to support the Space Generation without losing her smile. She more than deserves this recognition in appreciation of her work. From the whole NEO WG: Mulţumesc mult Iulia!
And here is the quote from our Chairs:
We are thrilled to recognise Iulia's contributions to SGAC’s Conference on Planetary Defence in Bucharest last month. The event's tremendous success would not have been possible without her efforts and leadership. Congratulations!
