SGAC membership has been steadily growing throughout the years. Among our membership there are many incredible young space professionals  and university students whom should be recognised for their hard work and contributions to SGAC. In December 2009, the SGAC Executive Council decided to acknowledge one member per month for his or her outstanding work and contributions to SGAC and its goal.

We are proud to present the January 2012 Member of the Month: Andrea Jaime (Deputy Executive Director)

Andrea Jaime Albalat (Andrea Jaime) is a Spanish aerospace engineer who was born in Onda, Spain. In 2007, she earned a double undergraduate degree in both Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering from the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC), in Barcelona. During these studies, she spent one year at the North East of Wales Institute (NEWI) in the United Kingdom. In 2010, Andrea earned her masters in Aerospace Science and Technology, also from UPC in Barcelona (2010). Additionally, Andrea is an alumni of the International Space University's (ISU's) Summer Studies Program (SSP) 2009, which was hosted by the NASA Ames Research Center in California, USA. Andrea also completed the CVA (Communaute des Villes Ariane) Summer School, hosted in Rome in 2011.
She started her professional career working as part of the organisational committees of several workshops and conferences, including ISU SSP 2008 in Barcelona. Since then, Andrea has worked at the European Space Agency as a Young Graduate Trainee. Based at ESTEC in the Netherlands, she worked for the Human Spaceflight and Operations Directorate.

Andrea is an enthusiast of space exploration, and strongly believes in the power of the space sector for the development and improvement of Earth.

Guzel Kamaletdinova, National Point of Contact for Russia, nominated Andrea:
"I knew Andrea when she was introduced to our SGAC team. Almost as soon as she was introduced, she took her duties seriously and as we can see, by now, she has been working hard and responsibly. We all could see her achievements and she has been inspiring us from the beginning. I admire her energy and her positive sense of development that she brought us. I am happy that she is one of our leaders and I believe she can successfully continue our expansion and strengthening! But I am sure she, as a leader, needs our feedback in this positive key. That is why I am happy to nominate her!"

Our January MoM's reaction: "It was unexpected, but so great to be nominated the first Member of the Month in 2012. I arrived at SGAC full of positive energy and ready to start working with a great group of people, and to bring myself into them. However, what I found was  a great group of people already full of that energy and passion, and I was the one who got all their good vibes. Thank you very much for this nomination (and the kind words from Guzel, NPoC from Russia). I feel really proud to already be fully integrated into this organisation, and this is giving me an extrac push to keep the good work that, thanks to you, we are all achieing. 2012, with this good beginning for me, will be even better!"

From SGAC Chair, Michael Brett: "Congratulations to Andrea on being selected as our Member of the Month for January! Andrea been in her position as Deputy Executive Director for a relatively short time, but has already made an positive impact on the organisation. Her hard work on the Annual Report for 2011 and the SGC Final Report in particular have been extremely valuable and have allowed us to release this material well ahead of time. Most importantly though, Andrea has quickly established herself as an essential part of the SGAC family.  She is a delight to work with and we're looking forward to big things when she takes over the reins from Ariane."
