SGAC membership has been steadily growing throughout the years. Among our membership there are many incredible young space enthusiasts who should be recognised for their hard work and contributions to SGAC. In December 2009, the SGAC Executive Council decided to acknowledge one member per month for his or her outstanding work and contributions to SGAC and its goals.

We are proud to present 2012 March Member of the Month: Mahsa Taheran

Mahsa TaheranMahsa has been an active SGAC member since 2008. First, she was NPoC of Iran, and now she is one of the Regional Coordinators for the Middle East region. She has recently finished graduate studies at the International Space University, and currently works in Iran at a research institute. Mahsa is also a member of the SGAC’s Space Safety and Sustainability PROJECT GROUPS. Her interests are space sustainability, space education and outreach activities, and space systems engineering.

Aziz Kahiyan, Regional Coordinator for the Middle East, and Behnoosh Meskoob, National Point of Contact for Iran, nominated Mahsa.
From Benoosh: "It is my honour to nominate Mahsa as SGAC Member of the Month for March 2012. I first met her in 2010 as she helped me to attend SGC2010. Her assistance and efforts were unforgettable. Afterwards, she motivated me to become the NPoC for Iran. Since then, she has not only been my supervisor, cooperating with Aziz as my Regional Coordinator, she has also be one of my best friends. Her dedication, precious help, leadership and efforts contributed towards SGAC and Iranian space communities, such as the Iranian Space Agency and Aerospace Research Centre for Iran, made her a role model for me. I was a space enthusiast, and she showed me the right path to hone this interest. Most astronomical and space-related groups contact her, and they are willing to collaborate their projects with SGAC because of her great relations with different groups and communities. As the Persion New Year is in March, I think the best way for me to thank her, and to wish her a “Happy New Year”, is to nominate her for Member of the Month. I’d like to say my congratulations in Persion:"

From Aziz: Since joining SGAC, Mahsa has been a big supporter of SGAC’s activities. To support SGAC, she stepped up quickly to the Regional Coordinator position, and extended communications within the Middle East region by recruiting more members, and getting in touch with the space community, all while creating awareness for SGAC and SGAC’s activities. Besides all the activities she participates in and her efforts, Mahsa is also one of the two recipients of the Women in Aerospace Europe Aware. She is not only an active member, but with all her dedication and stance for women’s roles in space activities, Mahsa is also an asset to SGAC.

And here is our March Member of the Month’s reaction: "It is a great honour to be chosen as SGAC Member of the Month! I would like to thank Aziz Kayihan and Behnoosh Meskoob for nominating me.  I am also thankful to all the Middle East NPoCs for supporting activities in Middle East. I hope my activities contribute to the growth and development of SGAC in Middle East!"

From SGAC Co-Chair, Catherine Doldirina: "Mahsa is one of our most devoted and active members. It is a great pleasure to know that this is a fact acknowledged by SGAC members. I am sure that Mahsa is an inspiration for many, and hope that she will not cease to contribute to this organisation’s activities, projects and events. Congratulations, Mahsa!"
