SGC Program

SGC (Friday 1 st – Sun 3 rd)

Sunday's All Student half-day Event (joint with ESA, NASA and JAXA students)

Will be hosted by the Vancouver Convention Centre, where you will join up with ESA, NASA*, CSA* and JAXA* students for the day.

Follow up workshops for SGC, IAF week

Will be held as morning or afternoon workshops at the hotel facilities. SGC follow-up workshops during IAF week are an important part of the SGC program, so if you do not have any IAF sessions to attend, you should attend these workshops sessions.

SGC-IAF plenary event, Fri 8 th AM, ‘The Space Generation: Visions for the Next 50 Years and how they are Making It Happen!’

Will be held at the Convention Centre on the morning of Friday 8 th. See IAC programme for details.

SGC closing ceremonies, Fri 8 th PM

Will also be held in the Vancouver Convention Centre. ESA, NASA, JAXA and CSA students and IAC delegates will be invited to join SGC delegate in the wrap up session of the conference.

Other IAF sessions to look out for include the IAF Student-Agency Plenary event on Monday PM. SGC delegate have been invited to attend this student plenary session organised by the various space agencies.

Accommodation

Delegates will be housed at the Palisades Pacific Hotel in downtown Vancouver. The hotel is situated 5 minutes walk from the IAC convention centre. For more information about the hotel please see http://www.pacificpalisadeshotel.com/

The hotel is an all suite hotel. Rooms have a living area, bedroom area and kitchenette, and will typically be shared between 4 people (in order to keep the price down). Rooms and room shares will be organised by the SGC delegates committee - so if you have particular people you want to share with please let us know! Delegates without room buddies will be allocated by the committee by common interest - i.e. party people vs. sleep and relaxation. Make sure you fill out the online accommodation form (LINK). In the interest of keeping prices down, if you don't mind sharing a bed with a friend (unisex rooms only) ie maximum room share of 4 people, the accommodation costs are even cheaper! Again see the accommodation form. Accommodation costs are as follows:

For SGC & IAF week

  • 4 share (cheapest!) $380
  • 4 share (with own bed) $450

*please contact the organising committee if you are staying for less than 6 nights.

There are free coffee facilities and breakfast (bagel, muffins and croissants) will be an optional extra of ~$30 USD for the 9 days of your stay.

The hotel also hosts a free wine reception every evening for its guest - a lovely way to relax after a days hard work.

All rooms are equipped with complimentary high-speed internet, provided you bring your own computer with an ethernet properly configured and installed, and an ethernet cable (no modem required). Instructions will be available in the room, and are also provided here.

Venue

SGC (Friday 2nd - Sat 3rd) will be held at the conference facilities within the hotel. Sundays All Student Leadership Day will be hosted by the Vancouver Convention Center, where you will join up with ESA, NASA, CSA and JAXA students for the day. Follow up workshops for SGC*, during IAF week (tentative schedule - see the programme) will be held as morning or afternoon workshops at the hotel facilities. The final SGC-IAF plenary event will be held at the Convention Center on the morning of Friday 8th followed by the SGC closing ceremonies in the afternoon.

* SGC follow-up workshops during IAF week will be optional for SGC delegates - so if there is an IAF session that you just can't miss, don't worry!
