FFG/bmvit/SGAC Space Apps Competition 2013

Today, Europe’s citizens enjoy the benefits of space technology in many aspects of their daily life. These aspects range from our jobs and economic growth, to public services, efficient communications and security. The general public is not always aware of the benefits and importance of space to our way of life, and how we depend on them. “Space” is indeed important, for Earth, for life and above all for inspiring the future: Space for Earth, for Live, and for Inspiration. Clever and innovative Space Apps might change this view and contribute to a better understanding and of how space benefits individual lifes on Earth by showing them the possibilities that space offers.

The Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) together with the Federal Ministry of Transport and Innovation (bmvit) and the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) invite Austrian students and young professionals to participate in the FFG/bmvit/SGAC Space Apps Competition 2013 to attend the Space Generation Congress 2013 in Beijing, China. Terms of Participation

  • Please describe an innovative Space App
  • Target group: Austrian students and young professionals until the age of 35
  • Paper language: English
  • Paper length: minimum 4 pages, maximum 10 pages (max. font size 12), including an abstract not being longer than 5 lines

Judging

Submissions will be judged on scientific & technical content and detail, originality and description of concept by a jury of experts from Academia and Industry.

All submissions will get feedback from the judges via the Competition Manager Klaus Kornfeld.

 

Prizes

Attendance of SGC 2013 in Beijing and presentation of paper to the SGC 2013 delegates. On behalf of bmvit FFG offers a scholarship for travel expenses after the publication of the full SGC Congress report.

 

Timeline

The Space Generation Congress 2013 in Beijing, China, will be held from 19 – 21 September 2013. The submission deadline is midnight on 17 August 2013. The winner will be contacted on 26 August 2013.

About SGAC

The Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) in support of the United Nations Programme on Space Applications is a non-governmental organisation and professional network which aims to bring the views of students and young space professionals to the United Nations (UN), space industry and other organisations. While the term "Space Generation" defines the generation born after October 4th, 1957, the launch of Sputnik, the network is geared towards university students and young professionals in the space sector, aged roughly from 18-35.
