SGAC membership has been steadily growing throughout the years. Among our membership there are many incredible young space enthusiasts who should be recognized for their hard work and contributions to SGAC. In December 2009, the SGAC Executive Council decided to acknowledge one member per month for his or her outstanding work and contributions to SGAC and its goals, and we continued this until today.

SGAC is proud to present the SGAC February Member of the Month: Laura Bettiol.

Laura Bettiol (Italy)

Laura Bettiol

Laura is currently a third year Ph.D. student in Space Sciences, Technologies and Measurements at the Center of Studies and Activities for Space of the University of Padova (Italy). Her research topic focuses on the study of the dynamics and control of flexible structures for aerospace applications. She pursued her Master's and Bachelor’s degrees in Aerospace Engineering in 2014 and 2011 at the same University. She also completed the interdisciplinary Space Studies Program of the International Space University during summer 2015 hosted by the Ohio University in Athens, Ohio (USA). As an SGAC member, Laura has been the National Point of Contact for Italy since November 2015. She has also been part of different projects of the Space Safety and Sustainability project group. Laura enjoys organising space-related events and loves travelling.

Laura was nominated by Matteo Emanuelli, Regional Coordinator - Europe:

Since her election as NPoC, Laura has been super active with different initiatives showing great leadership skills. She has been instrumental for the organisation of the 1st European Student Workshop in Padua in December 2015. She also took a lead role in drafting the working group reports of Space Generation Congress 2014, 2015 and E-SGW and collaborated with the Space Safety and Sustainability Project Group. Laura has also negotiated the continuation of the ASI-SGAC Grant and she is in the organising team of SpaceUp Milan. As RC, I know I can always count on her availability and support to help with projects and events' organisation.

Here's Laura's reaction:

"It is a big honour for me to be Member of the Month. Being an active volunteer of SGAC in such an international environment and surrounded by so many enthusiastic students and young professionals in the space sector has given me the opportunity to learn and grow immensely. Having received so much from this organisation, it is a great pleasure for me to give my contribution to foster its growth, in particular promoting space knowledge and passion in my country.

From SGAC Chair, Ali Nasseri:

"I met Laura as one of our delegates at SGC 2014. Things have changed a lot since then, with her taking a leading role in SGAC activities in Italy, organizing the European Student Workshop 2015 and SpaceUp Milan in 2016. Her dedication to SGAC in the past few years clearly makes her worthy of recognition, and I am happy to see the Executive Committee select her as our member of the month. "
