SGAC membership has been steadily growing throughout the years. Among our membership there are many incredible young space enthusiasts who should be recognized for their hard work and contributions to SGAC. In December 2009, the SGAC Executive Council decided to acknowledge one member per month for his or her outstanding work and contributions to SGAC and its goals, and we continued this until today.
SGAC is proud to present the SGAC September Member of the Month: Ramasamy Venugopal (India), Former Executive Secretary & AF-SGW Program Team Member
Ramasamy Venugopal (India)
Ramasamy Venugopal has a Bachelor of Engineering and a Masters in Space Studies from the International Space University, Strasbourg. His major interests are science communication, astronomy, and space advocacy. He works with the International Astronomical Union's Office of Astronomy for Development in Cape Town. Since 2016, he has served as one of the secretaries to the SGAC Executive Committee and on the program team for the first African Space Generation Workshop. Currently, he volunteers for the support team for the Space Generation Forum Anniversary event during UNISPACE+50.
Ramasamy was nominated by Oniosun Temidayo Isaiah (Regional Coordinator for Africa):
“Ram is a big fan of SGAC and has been very instrumental in the organizing team for the 1st African Space Generation Workshop. His timely delivery of duties and innovative approaches to tasks is commendable. I am really glad he could make it to the workshop.”
Here's Ramasamy's reaction:
“Working with SGAC has been a rewarding experience. Over the last two years, I have worked with different teams. Special mention has to be given to the organising team of the First African Space Generation Workshop (AF SGW). The team overcame many challenges to successfully organise the first such event in Africa. Team members showed incredible dedication and patience and put in more effort and resources than would ever be expected from volunteers. I want to duly share this recognition with the AF SGW team and SGAC Africa. Finally, sincere thanks to the SGAC Executive for their continued support at every turn.”
From SGAC Chair, Ali Nasseri:
“I have known Ramasamy since late 2015, when we recruited him to eventually replace myself in the secretary role. Since then Ramasamy has not only served on the Executive Committee of SGAC as Executive Secretary, but has contributed to other activities such as the African Space Generation Workshop and more recently the Space Generation Forum Anniversary Event. He has continuously tried to share opportunities with our members, and more recently has focused on connecting the astronomy community with SGAC. His contributions have had a great impact on SGAC, and I am happy to see him be recognized as member of the month!"
