Welcome to SGAC IRAN!

Iran as one of the main and absolute powers of Middle East region in Space Science and Aerospace, plays an important role in development of space arena by projects such as launching Pishgam Voyager and AUT SAT satellite into space, which covers implementing new technologies, outreach programs and improvement in professional and public aspects. Many youths groups hold programs to support public awareness and organizations like Iranian Space Agency (ISA) and Astronautics Research Institute (ARI) make noticeable efforts in professional aspect.

Young Space Activities Overview in Iran

Iran Image 1Star Peace Project

The StarPeace Project was a special global project first organized in conjunction with the International Year of Astronomy in 2009. StarPeace project participants held public star parties near a border of their country with a neighboring country. The intention was to show that there are no borders in the real Earth, borders are man-made and science has no borders.

Anousheh Ansari is an advisor to the StarPeace project. She was the first woman from the Middle East to go into space, and the first Iranian. 

 

Iran Image 2Yuri's night in Iran

In recent years, as this night has turned into one of the main programs and projects of astronomical groups, associations and societies, most of the groups have celebrated this night in the form of public speeches, seminars and other events that show the high potential of amateur astronomers.

Furthermore this ceremony is like astronomy day and world space week which has turned into one of the annual programs of councils. Although Iranians are familiar with the important role of space, after launching Omid satellite, the Yuri' night celebration is a fortune to show the importance of Space industry for Iran. Many cities like Tehran, Tabriz, Isfahan and Zahedan celebrate this night. This year Mr. Amin Jamshidi - one of the Regional Outreach Coordinators in Middle East- besides organizing different programs all around the country, held special program in Education Charity Institution of Ra’ad for disabled and crippled people.

 

National Day of Space Technology

Iranians celebrate the National Day of Space Technology each year on 3rd of Feburary. All Iranians are proud of having a national Space industry and celebrate this day which shows the improvement of technology and industry in the country.

Dr Hamid Fazeli, head of Iranian Space Agency in celebration of the National Day of Space technology 2012,said we will launch biological payload, in near future.

 

Iran Image 3World Space Week

Programs of the international space week are prepared annually in Iran. During this week, NGOs, groups, universities and societies conduct different plans, such as seminars, miscellaneous public programs and workshop in order to spread the word of peaceful use of space technology and familiarizing people with the latest achievements.

In 2012, ISA and ARI held  14 different conferences and besides, several public events such as educational tours, competitions, exhibitions, radio and TV shows, workshops, children and student program and inviting an astronaut was done during this week.  Different universities, institutes and research centers all around the country were involved in programs.

Dr Sheikh Muszaphar was the invited astronaut who talked about his memories in space and this event was one of the programs of the Astronautics Research Institute.

To celebrate this year's World Space Week and introducing Space Generation Advisory Council, the SGAC NPoCs from Iran organised and held an SGAC booth with cooperation of Night Sky Magazine in Tehran, Iran.

The SGAC booth attracted many visitors, and the SGAC members –Leila Qasemzadeh and Ali Alizadeh- showed the video message that SGAC Chair, Catherine Doldirina and the Executive Director Andrea Jaime prepared for this event. Visitors from schools, universities, with different age ranges, were attracted to activities and goals of the organisation as well. This program was held with presence of officials and representatives of space and astronomy organisations of Iran and press and TV coverage.

 

Iran Image 4Astronomy day 2012 - collaboration of astronomers and space enthusiasts

Different programs for celebration the astronomy day were held in Arak, Ardabil, Rasht, Isfahan, Tehran and other cities on 12th and 13th of May.

One booth in each city’s program was specified to space science and technology with rocket models of Iranian satellites and rockets with making and launching amateur satellites.

 

 

Iran Image 5Iran CANSAT competition

Iranian Cansat Competition (ICC) has been designed and managed by the Astronautics Research Institute Cansat Association (ARICA, The only Cansat Association up to now in Iran) for the first time (2012). This Competition is composed of 5 phases, the first of which is based on team arrangement and cansat preliminary design, the second for detailed design of cansat and Critical Design Report, third for poster presentation, fourth for the operation of the system design and manufactured under the team and the last phase for Post Flight Report and presentation. Cansats will be raised up to 500 meters height using a Helium balloon and 1000 meters height using rocket.

The second round of competition was held on November 8-10 2012 in Tehran. The third round will be held in September 2013.

 

 

Iran Image 6Iran Space Club

Night Sky Magazine, with cooperation of Mr. Sirus Borzu, support of Iranian Space Agency and SGAC NPoCs planned to start first ever Space Club in Iran and the first session was held during World Space Week 2012 in Tehran. The Space Club invites distinguished speakers from space industry, holds forums and discussions about challenging subjects in space arena. The second session was held in Dec 27th 2012 in Isfahan with speeches of Mr. Borzu, Mr. Shahram Yazdanpanah and Dr. Mehdi Bazzaz Zadeh – the head of aerospace faculty in Malek Ashtar University of Technology.

 

Iran at SGC and IAC2012

This year 3 Iranian delegates participated in Iran and Mr. Seyed Ali Nasseri Won SGAC Young Leadership Award had many Iranians presented papers during 63rd International Astronautical Congress (IAC2012). Iran as a member of APSCO had a booth and for the first time, Behnoosh Meskoob –NPoC- was a panelist for “Space Women in Emerging Countries” panel which the panelists were a selection of female leaders, originating from emerging space nations, who are already working or studying in the space sector. The highlight of the panel involved a woman from the audience sharing her own experience of being one of the first woman hired at NASA back in the 60s, Rhoda Hornstein.
