The 4th Asia-Pacific Space Generation Workshop (AP-SGW 2017) is a two-and-a-half day regional workshop for university students and young professionals in the Asia-Pacific region to be held in the cosmopolitan IT city of Bengaluru, India in November 2017 in conjunction with the 24th Asia Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-24).

With AP-SGW, Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) aims to highlight the insight for the future and launch the perspective of the next generation on the topic of promoting Asia-Pacific regional collaboration in the space sector.With India’s Mars Exploration Initiative, China’s Lunar Exploration, Japan’s Multi-GNSS Development, and the rise of emerging space developing countries, Asia-Pacific region has now gained a strong voice in the global space industry. Combined with both evolving government efforts and emerging commercial initiatives, Asia-Pacific not only reflects enormous potentials for space exploration but also summons a promising reserve of talents in preparation for a stage of fusing different channels to boost space advancement.

NOTE: The registration fee has to be paid as a confirmation of attendance from the delegate once he/she receives an acceptance email from the Delegate team.

The registration covers Delegate Welcome Pack, two days catering onsite (lunch and coffee breaks), Opening Dinner with International Night, Closing Gala Dinner, materials needed for the Workshop, and transportation to and from the airport. The delegate should cover by themselves - lodging, airfares, visa fees and other personal expenses.

The 4th AP-SGW 

Up to 100 delegates, mainly university students and young professionals under 35 years old in the Asia Pacific region, are expected to participate through a series of workshops, panels and guest presenters. This year’s working group topics are:

  1. Social-Economic Impacts of Regional Satellite Navigation Systems
  2. Space Diplomacy: Bridging the Divide
  3. CubeSats as an enabler of Space Technology in Developing Nations  
  4. Space Exploration
  5. Ecosystem for Young Space Entrepreneurs
  6. Regulatory Hurdles and Space Policy  

This year’s AP-SGW also features a new optional Speed Mentoring Event. During the event, aspiring young space entrepreneurs will have the precious opportunity to share their ideas, exchange understanding with and learn from established Space professionals in the region.

Applications for the event are OPEN NOW!! Please refer to the timeline for details. Applicants will be asked to provide information on their experience in the space sector and their motivations for applying. Based on applicant's interests and prior experiences, and the merit of their application, the AP-SGW delegates will be selected and then assigned to one of the working groups.

AP-SGW is a unique opportunity for the upcoming space sector leaders in the region to contribute their voice to the regional space sector policy, and exchange ideas on pertinent issues such as competition, cooperation and peaceful uses of outer space that will shape the space industry of the region in the future. Additionally, AP-SGW provides the optimal forum to network with other future, regional space leaders as well as to develop the necessary leadership and team collaboration skills to rise to the top.

To conclude the workshop, the output from the working groups will be presented at the AP-SGW and further submitted as SGAC recommendations to United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS), in addition to potentially presenting them at various international conferences.
