Hotels for SGC
Finding a hotel this has been much more difficult than last year. Prices in Scotland are very high relative to other parts of the world and people seem to be less open to negotiate. In the past, we have been able to garner great discounts, but not here. We are hoping to work something out by this Friday that will be both the hotel and congress site. We are really looking to make the most of the culture in Scotland and also be able to impact the community in Glasgow.
VERY SOORY KEVIN BUT DONT GIVE UP
Dear Kevin!
I am very sad to hear that the Scotish people are not that much kind as to consider our demands, but you keep on trying I am sure that they will calm down and things will be much better, because real we have to get the hotel with the reasonable price that will be accomodated by every one, as you need also to know that there are delegates from Developing countries.
But you are doing a great job Kevin! I do appreciate for that
Suggestion.
Dear Kevin.
I don't think renting hotels for the participants is a better idea, specially when we looking at the fact that you guys are organizing all this by the money you collect from sponsors, which is limited.
I suggest you or your team rents a big old villa or a small apartment with a lot of rooms in it,which is not at the hot spot of the city,so that the price will go down.I am telling you this from experience. This will even keep us closer and see each other more.In my home city,Addis Ababa being the capital of African Union(AU),hotel prices are untouchable,so for seminar or meeting purposes when we have students coming form other parts of the country what we do is we rent a private villa or a flat in a certain apartment, the many we saved is unbelieveable.
You guys are may be caring too much for our comfort. That is great, but what matters the most is that we get to see each other and do stuffs together, besides with the money you will be saving you can support one or two more underprivileged participants form third world countries.
I hope my idea works in scotland.
yours.

Hi Biniyam, I looked at
Hi Biniyam,
I looked at renting several different places when I was there in February. My first choice was actually a villa or something, but there is nothing close to the city. The money we would save on lodging we would spend more of on transportation to get from the lodging to the city for the IAC.
Its a good idea though.
Kevin
One more thing.
Hi,Kev.
I feel sad that you guys are facing all the trouble just by yourselves, sorry we couldn't be there for you.
I have one more suggestion to add to the previous one.
I hoped there would be some scotish,in glasgow, who love space issues being raised and admire what you guys are doing there. You could give these guys an opportunity to serve the cause by letting them accomodate a few delegates.I know a friend some years back, who went to japan and full accomodated by japanese for the whole month during his stay there.
GOOD LUCK GUYS!!

THAT IS GREATOBSERVATION BINIYAM
Dear Biniyam!
You have raised an important points taking into consideration that SGC will have some delegates from Africa and othe less developed countries where most of people are suffering from financial constraints, and I am sure that live in Scotland will be too expensive for us to take, I like your idea of the issues of HOST FAMILIES to some delegates because I do remember some of my friends who went to Norway this year on February to attend the ISFIT they were accomodated in families called host family.
I think what we are doing as Organizers is to make sure that all are staying in one place and also the issues of security, but I hope that Kevin will do his best to make sure that we get the Hotel that will not cost that much.
Let us keep on brainstorming on this
One more.
Hi Castory,
Thanks for the kind comments.since you have brought the brain storming idea on this issue, here I have one more, and it's fun.
We could all go to a certain camping site not too far from the congress and camp there,i.e each of us will be given a tent and necessary refreshment stuff.
We could also cook our breakfast and dinner, but lunch must be provided since we'll be tide up all day in the congress.
Think of the money we'll be saving this way!
This will also help us to interact more and learn a great deal about each other.
What do you think guys??
YOU HAVE A POINT BINIYAM
Dear Biniyam!
What you are suggesting makes sense, but because Kevin is the incharge of everything, so it would be better if he could respond into these, but one thing that you can do, is for you just to get in touch with kevin via sgcinfo@spacegeneration.org so that he can respond to all your/our suggestions because I am sure that life there will be very expensive to the point that if the cost will be upon the delegates then it will be difficult for the delegates from Africa to participate.
Consinderation on students from Africa
my suggetion is that, the SGC SHOLD PUT into consideration the students from Africa simply because financially, they are not capable.I myself being one of the deligetes, iam experiencing some difficulties on how my trip to Glasslow will succeed. My sugestion is,in order Africa to become insipired on spacial issues some companies should try their level best to sponsor students in all the costs so that all students from Africa may get a chance to participate in SGC in 2008.I shall be very grateful if students from Africa will be sponsored in all costs.By Rutasingwa Fortunatus from Dar-es-salaam university
THERE IS SPONSORSHIP FOR PEOPLE FROM DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
Dear Rutasingwa!
There is sponsorship for the delegates from the developing countries but they are not given out for free as only those who are active and those who qualified to the sponsorship needs will get sponsor, so you have to undersatnd that chances for sponsorship are very few and so competitive, but try to be active in SGAC projects and be patient, I am sure time will tell.

Financial difficulty
Remember, its not just students from Africa, but also parts of Asia and South America. We do our best to provide you with the most for the lowest cost. Last year in SGC, about 50% of the delegates received some type of assistance. Even the volunteers have a difficult time and save up all of their money for an entire year to be able to come. We will have some scholarship items on the website soon.
Kevin
Thanks for your reply
Thank you the hopeful answer on sponsorship concerning the Developing countries, iam still waiting for the sponsorship.By Rutasingwa Fortunatusi
How about booking a whole
How about booking a whole youth hostel in the area? I'm sure that if we book in advance we will get a pretty good rate!
I am working with a couple
I am working with a couple hostel's problem is that none are big enough. There are one or two that are big enough, but they have had large groups in them for something unrelated since that booked back in January.
all the best guys
All of the above comments are healthy for SGC members.I do hope we will get any feedback of how things are going there so we can be able to put out our different ideas for the coming congress.
Thanks.

Good job!
I know what it means and how frustriating it could be trying to negotiate for discount in a place that is not reasonably disposed to such but with persistence and good contacts which I know you are capable of we will see the light of the day! How far is some of these hotels to the conference centre? Do they have an easy and cheap transport system in thier domain?
