YURI'S NIGHT IN AFRICA
As members of space community we recognize the meaningfulness of space to humanity. And one of the way is through various celebration including Yuri's night and world space week.
I wonder if in Africa they once celebrated Yuri's night officially in one of its cities. But having such a party in one of the Africa city will enable to people of Africa to celebrate the power and beauty of space and what it means to them through such events.
I brought up this view as am aware Africa is one of the contintent that is lagging behind interms of recognizing the importance of space for their lives. So to organizing such events in Africa it will means getting them close to realities of the space and also making the event to be on a really planetary scale. With this also we can able to get an african taste and input when it come to space activities. Lets the whole world join their hands together in magnifying the importance of space interms of the benefit it can offer!
Lets give it a try! What do you think guys!
I agree with you Elijah on that.It will be very interesting as we african of the same interests on space matters to meet together.
I think that will be one of the land mark event on space affairs knowledge to Africans.
Together we can achieve that!
I am happy to read this comments.
First and foremost, for general information, yuris night has been a regular event year in year out since April 12 2004 in Nigeria.
For example,I would not know if any of the three or four yuris night party host received a call on the 30th of March 2008 from National Aeronautics and Space Administration(N A S A)but we received the call from NASA and with the intention to broadcast the event from Nigeria to U.S the same day.
In Nigeria, there is a space club which for the past five years has been promoting space activities among the University students. We have been attending and organizing several space workshops and conferences in Nigeria and abroad.
Lastly, its good news to hear that people are now showing more interest in the field of space science and technology expecially in our beloved continent-Africa.

I totally agree with Elijah and Charles in promoting the idea of bringing the event close to Africa so as to create awareness to the Africans and increasingly show how space is important to every human being.
Am happy also to hear about the space club in Nigeria and other activities pertaining to space in that particular country. This shows how Africans are now subscribing to the ideas of the meaningfullness of the space and through that we can all integrate our efforts in promoting the idea that space holds the very breath of human beings. Furthermore despite individual countries efforts in promoting space activities in africa, still we can all come together and organize 'the whole of Africa Yuri's night'. This will not only strethening our efforts handling space matters but it will definetely help the dessemination of information about space to the grassroots of Africans to be a much easier process.
Yuri's night in africa is really a wonderful idea. Lets hold the vision and take it forward.
It is my great pleasure as the rising star for the future of space in Africa to see the vibrant African youth putting forward wonderful ideas and comments on Yuri's Night.
Honestly all points which have been raised by Elijah, Teddy and Charles are crucial and infact it will be a great deal to have a Regional celebration for Yuri's Night, though it is good also to have local celebration in every individual country as it will also have an impact to the local community.
To me to mark the day of the first man in space Mr. Yuri Gagarin is an important thing as he was the one who paved the way for all the space exploration that we are talking about particulary the exploration by human as at first we had an exploration based on Robotic mission.
Yuri's Night brings people together, to discuss the matters related to space though it is not bounded with time that only it has to be celebrated during night, no as you might have space activities during the day, the activities that will bring the people together, things like Rocket Launch, it can help to trap the mass as it is so interesting.
Let keep on brainstorming on this.
