SGAC/ISU Alumni Gathering in Vienna, Friday 13 June 2008

On Friday, June 13th SGAC together with ISU organised a gathering in one of the last monastery cellars in Vienna's historical center.

Bitzinger’s Augustinerkeller is one of the last monastery cellars of Vienna’s Old Town. You can still marvel at the old vaults of what originally was a defensive fortification, converted into a restaurant as late as in 1924. Since 1954, the Bitzinger family has been cultivating the tradition of Vienna style gastronomy in this extremely popular Heurigen restaurant.

You may ask yourself why we are talking about a „cellar“ although we enter the Augustinerkeller on street level and may even proceed upstairs to rooms under the vaults of the upper floor. The reason is that over the centuries the street level changed drastically and the Albertina cellar eventually got an upper floor.
The scope of culinary delights of the Augustinerkeller reaches from Viennese specialties to excellent wines from Bitzinger’s own wine cellars and pleasant beer from the tap, in the evenings Heurigen music guarantees cheerful hours.

A really cosy, “gemütlich” and popular meeting point for natives as well as foreign guests.

The evening truly was a success with over 50 guests attending. We welcomed a special guest, President of ISU, Mike Simpson who gave a speech concerning ISU and its activities. Agnieszka Lukaszczyk, SGAC Executive Officer thanked the guests for coming and encouraged them to cooperate with Space Generation. Guests included SGAC members, ISU Alumnis, COPUOS delegates, Ambassadors and high level officials.
