With the recent growth of SGAC through regional events, and our increased presence at the Space Symposium and International Astronautical Congress, the SGAC is opening a new position on the Executive Council for a Deputy Treasurer. This position is a key leadership role within the SGAC, providing assistance, direction, and management of the SGAC treasury team.

The Deputy Treasurer will report to the Executive Director and Treasurer to provide strategic direction of the organisation. The Deputy Treasurer will provide primary oversight and management of SGAC finances, as well as provide insight into the the analysis, structure, and execution of financing initiatives.

About the Position

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Aid the Treasurer through managing SGAC finances

  • Assist with SGAC’s taxation in the United States

  • Work with event coordinators in budget development


  • Proficiency and dedicated track record in financial management; this may include being the Treasurer of a non-profit or society or experience managing finances for a company

  • Knowledge of common accounting procedures including balance sheets, Profit & Loss (P&L’s), account reconciliation, and financial reporting

  • Excellent command of the English language

  • Responsive and quick email turn around time

  • Flexible to meet with the Executive and Treasurer on a regular basis (by Skype or GoToMeetings)

  • Be a young professional or student between the age of 18 and 35

Other useful but non-essential skills include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting, or a related field such as Business Administration

  • Knowledge of the US tax system (IRS 990 for 501c3 non-profits)

  • Knowledge of Paypal and online banking systems


  • Opportunity to develop highly desirable skills in multi-currency financial management, budgeting, and US taxation

  • Opportunity to work with SGAC’s global sponsors

  • Opportunity to work directly with the SGAC Executive Office and Advisory Board

Approximate time commitment: Estimated 10 hours per month, with an increased time commitment around major events (e.g. Space Generation Fusion Forum in mid-April, and Space Generation Congress late-September).

Duration of term: 2 years, with the opportunity to renew the term for another 2 years based on performance.

The Deputy Treasurer is a voluntary position on the SGAC Executive Council.
