SGAC membership has been steadily growing throughout the years. Among our membership there are many incredible young space enthusiasts who should be recognized for their hard work and contributions to SGAC. In December 2009, the SGAC Executive Council decided to acknowledge one member per month for his or her outstanding work and contributions to SGAC and its goals, and we continued this until today.

SGAC is proud to present the SGAC September Member of the Month: Mitchell Scher (USA), Strategic Partnerships Team Coordinator

Mitchell Scher (USA)

Mitchell Scher

Mitchell Scher currently works in Government Affairs at Planet Labs Inc. in San Francisco, CA. His work focuses primarily on space-facing ITAR, EAR, NOAA, and OFAC regulations and compliance. He is a graduate of Hamilton College with a degree in Chinese, and also completed the International Space University's Space Studies Program in Haifa, Israel in 2016. Mitchell has served as SGAC's Strategic Partnerships Coordinator since December 2016, is leading a team paper on commercial CubeSat development in the Small Satellites Project group, and managed SGAC's ISS R&D Young Professional Event. He is also a contributor for NewSpace Ventures.

Mitchell was nominated by Justin Park (Former SGAC Editor);

“Mitchell is an all-around great person and supporter of the Space Generation Advisory Council. He was responsible for raising tens of thousands of dollars for the organization over the last six months. He is also helping to organize the AAS conference in conjunction with the ISS R&D Conference next week. There really is no better person to give this award.”

Here's Mitchell's reaction:

“It's such an honor to be voted as the member of the month at a time when there is so much happening in SGAC - from a wildly successful SGC in Adelaide to behind-the-scenes organizational growth to the various events in the pipeline - and I can honestly say I did not expect it. It's been a pleasure working with dedicated and passionate event managers, project groups, and SGAC members across the board to help the organization grow and to explore new opportunities with our partners. I'm thankful for the personal and professional experiences I've had so far and I'm looking forward to what's next!.”

From SGAC Chair, Ali Nasseri:

I remember meeting Mitchell for the first time in Guadalajara, when he seeked us to see how he could get involved with SGAC. Since joining our team, he has helped create partnerships for multiple SGAC activities, and streamline the Strategic Partnership Team activities. He has also brought up some new avenues of activity that SGAC will be pursuing in future years. All that means that Mitchell has had a great impact on our team, and I am happy to see his contributions be recognized through the MoM! Well deserved Mitchell!"
