SGAC Announces the Winner of the $pace is Business! Paper Competition

4 September, 2012

The Space Generation Advisory Council, in partnership with the International Astronautical Federation’s Entrepreneurship and Investment Committee (EIC), is pleased to announce Asra Najam (USA) as the winner of this year’s inaugural Emerging Commercial Space Paper Competition for students and young professionals - $pace is Business!

About Asra Najam

Asra NajamAsra Najam is a senior at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbour, USA. She was born in Pakistan and moved to the United States as a young girl. She is currently studying economics and is particularly interested in the field of industrial organisation. She developed her interest in the aerospace industry when she joined her campus “Students for the Exploration and Development of Space” (SEDS) chapter. This past summer, she was an intern for the Office of Commercial Space Transportation at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Washington, DC. There, her passion for the space industry flourished. In addition, Asra is an avid writer, reader and amateur astronomer. She only hopes that, as she advances through her life and her career, that she is able to combine all these things she loves.

Here is Asra’s response to winning this competition:

“This award means a great deal to me because it gives me the opportunity to speak arently and openly about a subject that has captured my attention since I was child. In doing so, it allows me to interact with those who share similar passions, so that we may come together to form a greater tomorrow.”

The $pace is Business! competition challenged university students and young professionals worldwide to develop new ideas and perspectives on opportunities and challenges facing space today’s entrepreneurs and investors.

SGAC invited paper submissions addressing and engaging themes of interest to the Entrepreneurship and Investment Committee of the International Astronautical Federation. Submissions took the form of technical papers meeting International Astronautical Congress (IAC) paper guidelines.
