Space is an interdisciplinary field where people with diverse skill sets fit in. Greece, with its rich tradition and modern efforts, is no exception. Interested in a space career? Organizing an outreach event in Greece? Designing a cubesat? Looking for a scholarship to attend a space course? How could SGAC help? We invite you to discover how you can get involved!  Don’t hesitate to contact the Greek NPoCs for any queries, additional information, or even if you wish to communicate any upcoming events through the site - we'll be happy to assist in any way we can!

Young Space Activities Overview in Greece

Greece realizes its endeavours in space primarily through its European Space Agency (ESA) membership, which began in 2005. The country’s space sector is relatively new-born, yet developing rapidly.
At a national level, the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) represents Greece at ESA and together with the Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing (IAASARS) of the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) as well as other institutes, it coordinates Greece’s space research efforts.

The newly-formed, industry-led si-Cluster heads the country’s advancement in space technologies. Greek citizens are entitled to participate in research initiatives of or seek employment by ESA, Eumetsat and other international institutions that the country is part of.
Greek academics residing within the country or working abroad contribute frequently and substantially to international space research and applications on a variety of disciplines. Space science communication and dissemination is carried out by keen educators and volunteers who seek to motivate the younger generation to be part of the space sector and convince their contemporaries why it is important to invest in the long-term vision of space exploration and technology.
Greece has recently applied for the creation of an ESA Business Incubation Centre (BIC) and European Space Education Resource Office (ESERO) to be established within its borders in order to boost space-related entrepreneurship and enhance local space outreach.

On top of this, Greece has developed bilateral relations with states pursuing national space programmes, resulting in collaborative endeavours such as “Helios II” (in this case, with France, Belgium and Spain). Similar agreements have been made at an industry level (closer cooperation with Israeli and French counterparts).

Country Specific Events in 2017

18-19 February 2017 - SG[Greece] - SG[Greece] is the first SGAC event organized in the country. It will take place on February 18-19, 2017 and its official language will be English. The event will be a 2-day workshop where young people cooperate with international space experts to come up with new ideas on how to advance the country's space interests. These innovative ideas will be then presented to conferences and symposia in the form of a white paper. Parallel to the workshop, a Public Outreach Talk by a European Astronaut is envisioned. - Athens, Greece.
