Bio
I was born on a cold, dark night in February in Aghem-Wum, Cameroon. Then, my lone elder bother (first in the family) was two years old and not schooling. George is a nice guy and he would do anything for me, but like all brothers we fight like cats and dogs. Sometimes when no one was around, he would come up to me and bite my toes for no reason. I still love him but only because he is my brother.
Who I am in life.
My name is Hubert Foy Kum. I started school when I was six-years-old. I never went to kindergarten but moved straight to primary one through class seven at St; Martin's De Pores Primary School Wum and while I was there, I won an award for perfect attendance. In addition to my personal composure, this attracted both peer and teacher attention and was nominated and voted School Captain. I also won an award for honor roll in the last four years. Then I attended the reputed single-sex boarding college, Sacred Heart College Mankon, and there I also won a couple of awards: one for academic excellence and two for being named Student of the Year-one in form 3 and the other in form 4. As a tradition for final year students, I served as St Thomas Dormitory Captain to over 60 boarders. The last year of high school education was spent in the nation's oldest but mixed boarding institution, Cameroon Protestant College Bali. I graduated with high GCE certificate and proceeded to the lone and first English speaking university in Cameroon, university of Buea. As the fourth batch of studentsn we went through stressful and intensive curriculum both in the department of physics and Mathematics and Computer Science. I finally graduated in 2000 with a BS in Physics and computer science. I immediately took up teaching high school physics in my alma matar for 6 years. This spurred me to advance my education in space studies and I enrolled at International Space University Strasbourg where I graduated with MS in Space Studies in 2007. Presently, I am learning the french culture, language, at Marc Bloch University in preparation to enrol for research in 2008/2009 academic year.
What life means to me.
Life to me means vision, focus and deliverables that I can reflect and be happy for time well spent. I am pretty much on the happy side of life with my wife and two kids, but like all Africans I do I have extended responsibility. That means I do take care of my maternal and parternal relatives, be junior or seniors-if they do not have the means. I have an extensive network of frinds from conferences, symposiums and grad school that I often approach for inquiry or advice. I make my school days go by thinking of either the next hour or what I will do when I get home or on the weekend. At times I hang out with friends for coffee, beer or go clubbing especially on weekends. I am always quick to help when chanced and can fit a request into my schedule.
What's my outlook on the future.
The year 2008 will make me thirty four years and I think I will probably be still living in the US pursuing PhD. I will be quite comfortable with my academic life but not fine with living as it shall surely be hard for me to take care of my wife and kids, meaning that I will have to work extra hard to sustain them and myself. Ivon is a sweet lady; she will do anything for me. We have been together for seven years and our two kids: Gaston and Fautina are 12 and 1/2yr respectively.
Conclusion
As I said in the beginning, I was born in Cameroon and I've lived in France now for two years. I have visited many other European countries. Outside Europe, I have visited Russia, Canada, US and Dubai. I hope you have enjoyed reading my life story as much as I have enjoyed writing it for you. Try to get as much as you can out of team work; volunteer and you gain skills and contacts you shall find helpful when you get to the real world life. Here's a tip for you to live or try to live by: If you think it, it can be done.
