On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the UNISPACE conferences and the UNISPACE+50 process,  SGAC plans to host an anniversary event for the Space Generation Forum, the meeting which gave rise to SGAC in 1999. This two day event will be organised as in Vienna prior to the UNISPACE+50 Conference to bring together SGAC members and alumni to discuss how SGAC should evolve considering the outcomes of the UNISPACE+50 process. 

We are looking for a team of volunteers to help organise this event.

Role Descriptions

Below you may find a description of different roles defined for this event.Applicants are asked to select which roles they are interested in as part of the application process.

Based on the applications received and applicant skill sets, role descriptions might slightly be adjusted or new roles might be introduced at a later date. 


Event Manager

The event manager will be in charge of the coordination of the activities, reporting back to the SGAC Executive Director. Duties will include:

  • Oversee the activities of the organising team

  • Assist in event decision making and management

  • Help identify opportunities for outreach, engagement, and partnerships with other organisations and companies to increase participation and visibility

  • Plan the tasks needed and create reports, schedules, budgets, and other documents 

  • Review feedback from previousevents to identify areas of improvement

  • Note challenges encountered and best practices for future events

Estimated time commitment: 8 hours a week on average


Communications Team

This team will support public relations and advertising of the SGAC activities pertaining to the event and UNISPACE+50, working closely with the SGAC Public Relations (PR) and Communication Team and the Event Manager. Tasks will include:

  • Coordinating media relations and advertising before, during and after the Workshop

  • Writing press releases

  • Coordinating social media communication

  • Coordinating with the Organizing Team and other organizations on promotion

  • Developing brochures and potential sponsorship packages for the workshop

Estimated time commitment: 3-5 hours a week on average


Program Team 

The program team will be in charge of creating the event programme. Tasks will include:

  • Developing and preparing the program and the topics for the event

  • Selecting moderators, speakers and coordinating with them for invitations

  • Coordinating a cloud-based collaboration among team members

  • Writing related reports and documents

Estimated time commitment: 3-5 hours a week on average


Local Organising Team

The LoC will consist of several local volunteers (from Austria and preferably Vienna). Members of the team will make logistical arrangements for the event, and support delegate operations. Your tasks will include:

  • Event venue selection and booking

  • Selection of social gathering venues (dinners, visits, …)

  • Selection of potential accomodation options

  • Coordinating all contacts with delegates, pre- and post-selection

  • Selection of delegates

  • Point of contact for delegates on issues/questions

  • Interact with SGAC local supporters and partners for involvement in the programme

Estimated time commitment: 3-5 hours a week on average


Necessary Qualifications

  • SGAC membership: registration on the SGAC website and below 35 years of age at the time of the event
  • Interest in the space sector
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, quick turnaround international environment and meet deadlines without compromising the quality of work
  • Good English skills with a keen eye for details
  • Good teamwork skills and a high degree of self-organization
  • Cross-cultural and communication awareness: ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with people from various international and cultural backgrounds
  • Previous experience with organising events, or with team functions (PR and communications, programming, partnerships or logistics) is a plus



  • Develop highly desirable leadership skills
