SGAC membership has been steadily growing throughout the years. Among our membership there are many incredible young space enthusiasts who should be recognized for their hard work and contributions to SGAC. In December 2009, the SGAC Executive Council decided to acknowledge one member per month for his or her outstanding work and contributions to SGAC and its goals, and we continued this until today.

SGAC is proud to present the SGAC May Member of the Month: Samantha Marquart Brainard (USA), 2016 Space Generation Fusion Forum Manager.

Samantha Marquart Brainard (USA)

Samantha Marquart Brainard is a PhD candidate in the Systems Engineering department at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Samantha holds a M.A. in International Science and Technology Policy from the George Washington University's Space Policy Institute and a B.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In addition to her academic pursuits, Sam has held several positions in the aerospace industry. She is a member of the FAA-AST Commercial Space Transportation Advisory Committee. Sam was manager of the Space Generation Advisory Council's 2016 Space Generation Fusion Forum conference held in conjunction with the Space Symposium. Most recently, she worked for Alliant Techsystems (ATK) as a Program Manager in Beltsville, MD. Prior to her work with ATK, Samantha worked for the Aerospace Industries Association in Arlington, VA and Virgin Galactic in Washington, DC and Mojave, CA.

Samantha was nominated by Alexander Gibson (USA), RC for North, Central America & the Caribbean:

“Sam not only provided an exceptional level of leadership and organization to the SGFF team, but also pioneered a new format to the program which built upon the success of previous years while ensuring greater interaction for delegates. We received high praise and positive feedback about these new changes, and they will help sustain the significant impact SGFF has in the global space generation community.”

Here's Samantha's reaction:

"I am deeply grateful for being recognized as the SGAC Member of the Month. It was my honor to volunteer in the role of SGAC's 2016 Space Generation Fusion Forum manager this past April. Months of hard work and preparation led to a fantastic event. I am so thankful for the organizing team's dedication and commitment to SGFF2016; the event could not have happened without them."

From the SGAC Co-Chair, Stephanie Wan:

“I’ve known Sam through the DC space community and have always known of her leadership skills, but I am still impressed by how she’s able to organize such an amazing team and event. It has been an a privilege to work with her for the Space Generation Fusion Forum -- and with her past years of experience supporting the event, challenge and bring SGFF to the next level.”
