We have invited Dr. Benjamin Easter\, an expert from Human Research Program NASA\, and Dr. Stephen Alamo\, a flight surgeon from ESA\, to inform us of the health issues and medical challenges in astronaut care in preparation for and following orbital space missions. What do we still need to learn for successful long-duration space flights in the future? How can this knowledge improve our lives here on Earth? He also serves as Deputy Element Scientist for Exploration Medical Capability at Human Research Program NASA. Dr. Easter holds an MD degree from Harvard Medical School and an MBA degree from the University of Colorado. He spearheaded the development of the Martian Medical Analogue and Research Simulations (2MARS)\, an innovative simulation program to teach aerospace medicine to medical professionals in an operational environment. He also serves as the Assistant Medical Director for the Polar Medicine Service at the University of Colorado. \n  \n – Dr. Stephen Alamo is an ESA Flight Surgeon at the European Astronaut Center in Cologne. Stephen completed his medical training in Paris\, followed by an Emergency Medicine residency in Bordeaux. In pursuit of his interests in Space Medicine\, Dr. Alamo then joined MEDES (the French Institute for Space Medicine and Physiology) in Toulouse as a research physician and has practiced in the field of toxicology at the Poison Control Center. Currently\, in addition to being part of the ESA flight surgeon team\, Stephen works as an emergency attending physician at the Toulouse University Hospital.

She has expertise in finance from analyzing companies to evaluating public sector economic impact\, and is a proven relationship builder at all levels within investment banking\, UK’s thriving innovation ecosystem\, and a clear communicator in writing with attention to detail in multiple formats\, for marketing to business case writing. \nRaji Rajagopalan \nDr. Raji Rajagopalan serves as the Director of the Centre for Security\, Strategy and Technology (CSST) at the Observer Research Foundation\, New Delhi. Dr Rajagopalan was the Technical Advisor to the United Nations Group of Governmental Experts (GGE) on Prevention of Arms Race in Outer Space (PAROS) (July 2018-July 2019). She was also a Non-Resident Indo-Pacific Fellow at the Perth USAsia Centre from April-December 2020. As a senior Asia defence writer for The Diplomat\, she writes a weekly column on Asian strategic issues. Dr Rajagopalan joined ORF after a five-year stint at the National Security Council Secretariat (2003-2007)\, Government of India\, where she was an Assistant Director. Prior to joining the NSCS\, she was Research Officer at the Institute of Defence Studies and Analyses\, New Delhi. She was also a Visiting Professor at the Graduate Institute of International Politics\, National Chung Hsing University\, Taiwan in 2012. Her areas of expertise include Indian Foreign Policy & Security\, Asian Military and Strategic Issues\, and Space and Nuclear Security. SUMMARY:Our Giant Leap series on the astronaut selection campaign
DESCRIPTION:In 2021\, the European Space Agency launched a new wave of recruitment to select the next generation of astronauts. In 2021\, Our Giant Leap (now Diversity and Gender Equality Project Group of SGAC) started a series on the 2021 ESA astronaut recruitment campaign\, in order to encourage more women to apply but also to highlight the importance of greater diversity in the next generation of astronaut crews. In addition\, the unique ESA parastronaut selection campaign was brought forward. The three episodes held in 2021 were “Why do we need more women astronauts?”\, “Tips to prepare your application” and “One of them to be the next generation of astronauts?”. \nOne year after these 3 episodes\, the Diversity and Gender Equality Project Group of SGAC is launching a fourth episode to invite astronaut candidates (no longer in the run) to share their experience\, anecdotes and lessons learned with us. The audience will have the opportunity to hear their feedback on the overall selection process (in the limit of what they are allowed to say)\, and ask questions to real-life past astronaut candidates! \nThis webinar “They were ESA astronaut candidates for one year!”\, will be held July 20th 2022 on space exploration day! Come meet adventurous previous astronaut candidate Laura Jourdan\, and fearless previous parastronaut candidate Neil Hopper! \n  \nRegister Now !Speakers: \n  \n  \n \n  \nNeil Hopper \nNeil Hopper is a 46 year old Vascular Surgeon working at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro\, UK\, married to Rachel (a Matron in Cancer Services). Neil and Rachel have 2 children. Neil would describe himself as a space and sci-fi nerd\, he enjoys electronics as a hobby and also messes around with 3D printers. \nNeil Hopper graduated top of his year from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 2000 and also has a degree in Anatomical Sciences and a Doctorate in Research Medicine. The majority of his postgraduate training was in Wales. In 2011\, Neil undertook a year long fellowship in St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. He returned to Wales and then in 2013  was appointed as a consultant at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. \nIn April 2019\, Neil became unwell with sepsis and lost both legs below the knee. He returned to part-time work in October 2019 and resumed full duties with full on-call in February 2020. Since his return\, Neil also became a clinical lecturer in Anatomy for the University of Exeter. \nNeil found being on the other side of the knife difficult but that it has also afforded him new opportunities. In 2020\, Neil applied to the ESA Parastronaut programme – to try and fulfill a lifelong dream of training as an astronaut. Along the way\, he was able to communicate about his unique journey on social media. In the future\, he would like to contribute to research on prosthetics – “One day they will not just remedy a deficit but add new and enhanced functionality!”\, he says \nLaura Jourdan \nLaura Jourdan is a French polar explorer. Educated as a biologist\, she caught the polar virus on Svalbard in 2016. Fascinated by the extreme conditions of the Norwegian Arctic archipelago\, she decides to stay there to study polar guiding. \nFirst employed as a logistics facilitator for The University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) in a remote settlement where she lives in harsh polar conditions aside of society for several months\, she then trains to work at sea and embarks as a crew member and guide on board small ships around Svalbard and Northern Norway. Little by little\, she builds her experience\, becomes a professional polar expedition guide and embarks for further destinations such as Greenland\, Northern Canada and Antarctica. \nIn 2020\, while the covid crisis freezes the expedition cruise industry\, Laura is forced to stay on land and decides to explore the area she lives in. She passes her diving levels including rebreather diving\, and takes flying lessons. In February 2020\, when the European Space Agency announced the recruitment of its new generation of astronauts\, she applied with excitement and was selected for the first step of the recruitment process (cognitive and psychological tests). \nIn 2021\, Laura is selected to be part of the expedition team on board Ponant’s brand-new polar exploration ship Le Commandant Charcot for its first year in operation. After sharing the ship’s inaugural trip to the North Pole in September 2021\, she and her team lead challenging expeditions to the most remote areas of the world such as the Weddell and Ross seas or Northeast Greenland. \nToday\, Laura continues to explore and share her passion for the polar regions. With the development of the space industry\, she still dreams that one day she could be a part of the next great human adventure. \nModerator: \nTania Gres \nTania Gres is a young aerospace system engineer working in Thales Alenia Space in Turin (Italy) on challenging space exploration missions to Venus and Low Earth Orbit. Born in Germany and raised in France\, from a family of artists and engineers\, today she fulfills her dreams of working in the European space industry. As an engineer by day\, and as a SGAC volunteer at night. Within the association\, she is one of the 2 current National Point of Contact for France. She was the SG[France]2021 event manager and is the leader of the DIVINAS long term project of the Diversity and Gender Equality Project Group. She was also organizing the first Model UN of SGAC in collaboration with the European Centre for Space Law\, as well as part of the organization for the Space Generation Congress in Paris 2022. En el 2018 completo sus estudios de bachillerato universitario en Ciencias de la Computación en el Tecnológico de Costa Rica. Durante sus estudios participo en diversos proyectos aeroespaciales\, como el desarrollo del Satélite Irazu y el satélite GW-CubeSat. For each webinar\, 2 women from each one of the SGAC regions will speak about their background and professional experience\, including their role within SGAC. \nJoin us during your lunch or coffee break and enjoy a nice 45 minutes of discussion with the panelists. You will be able to engage with them in the chat and ask your questions.  \nThis episode will feature women from the European region. \n  \nThe Speakers : \nAlina Vizireanu \nAlina Vizireanu is a Geospatial and Earth Observation professional with a drive toward Human Development in the Space sector. With over 15 years of experience\, Alina founded AVINTERRA Consulting\, where the team is focused on making a change in the monitoring of climate resilience programs and addressing the societal impact of biodiversity loss. In addition\, Alina volunteers her spare time for organisations that aim to make a difference in NextGen’s development\, creating programs and collaborating with organisations at a global level. SGAC Alumna\, a member of the IAF Space Education and Outreach Committee and Women+ in Geospatial\, she is a mentor and advisor for young people and startups through her coaching business\, Starseeds.  \nAlexandra Jercaianu \nAlexandra is currently working as a Project Manager for Euroconsult – a consulting company fully dedicated to space and satellite vertical markets – where she works on several program development tracks for Euroconsult’s flagship event\, the World Satellite Business Week (WSBW) whilst also contributing to space policy and programs consulting missions for global governmental and industry clients. Before Euroconsult\, Alexandra worked as a Project Manager for Eurisy\, where she focused on building bridges between space and non-space sector markets to strengthen the diffusion of satellite-derived innovation\, technology\, and data.   \n  \nPrior to switching to the space sector\, she admits having never considered a professional path within this sector\, nor the venues open to non-STEM academic profiles. She argues that encountering the enthusiastic and diverse global community of volunteers at SGAC has played a significant role in her decision to continue in space and motivates her to give back her skills to empower others to bring about positive change in the sector. \n  \nAlexandra holds degrees in International Security and Conflict Studies from the Paris School of International Affairs (SciencesPo) and Romania’s National School of Political Studies & Public Administration and is a recipient of the International Astronautical Federation’s 2019 Emerging Space Leaders Award. \n \n \nPatricia Mounayer \nPatricia Mounayer is a lawyer admitted to the Beirut Bar\, currently living in Paris. She is the founder of the Jordan Space Research Initiative and holds several roles in the SGAC\, including NPoC for Jordan\, as well as co-lead of the Ethics & Human Rights project group and the Space for Climate Action policy working group. She is also a national lead in the Participation of Emerging Space Countries program of the Moon Village Association. Sahba holds a BASc in Mechanical Engineering\, an MSc in Space Studies\, and is currently pursuing her PhD in Sustainable Development and Climate Change. During her studies\, she collaborated with the German Aerospace Centre on robotics research and completed an internship at the European Space Agency’s Clean Space initiative which focused on the environmental impacts of space activities\, both on Earth and in space. Sahba is a vocal advocate for decoupling defense and space. She is committed to creating opportunities for underrepresented communities and helping guide the industry towards a more equitable\, ethical\, and sustainable future. \n\n\n\n\nHoda Awny El-Megharbel \n\n\n\n\nHoda Awny El-Megharbel is an Engineer in the Satellite Communication and Navigation Department in the Egyptian Space Agency. She graduated from Kyushu Institute of Technology / Laboratory of Lean Satellite Enterprises and In-Orbit Experiments (LaSEINE) with a Master’s Degree as part of the United Nations/Japan Long-term Fellowship Programme Post-graduate study on Nano-Satellite Technologies (PNST) in 2020. She’s a coordinator at the Ethio Space Kids Club (ESKC) program and a program coordinator in the Women in Space and Engineering (WiSE) project. Yumna founded Exploration which is a space education-based social enterprise. She believes every kid should get answers to their space imaginations which they usually don’t get in their classrooms. For that purpose\, she is working in affiliation with various international space organizations. She has been appointed as National Outreach Coordinator of Pakistan for The Organization for the Proliferation of Space Studies. Yumna Majeed graduated from Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore\, Pakistan. \nDr. Shreya Santra \nDr. Shreya Santra is currently an Assistant Professor in Space Robotics at Tohoku University\, Japan. She pursued her Ph.D. at the Space Robotics Lab (SRL) in Tohoku University as a Japanese government MEXT scholar. Her Ph.D. thesis was focused on Swarm coordination for planetary surface exploration in collaboration with DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation\, Germany. Her interests and specialization include micro-rovers and small satellites for space exploration. She holds a Btech in Electrical Electronics Engineering from NIT\, Jamshedpur\, India\, and Masters in Space Studies from the International Space University\, France. She completed her M.Sc in Space and Engineering Systems at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology\, Moscow\, Russia\, where she worked on high-altitude balloons\, industrial robots\, and small satellite constellations. She has several internship experiences at institutes like Indian Institute of Astrophysics and Physical Research Laboratory in India. She continues to work on various projects related to the optimization of space missions and has vast experience working with international teams to develop and design space systems. She is an active member of the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) and has been recognized for her contribution towards space outreach and SGAC activities around the globe. She is the Co-founder and Director of Space Technology at Spaceonova (a space education and research company in India) and Director of Outreach for Spaceport SARABHAI (India’s first space policy thinktank). \n\n\n\n\nKhushi Shah \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKhushi Shah is a senior year Mechanical engineering Undergraduate student based in Mumbai\, India. She has participated in numerous National and International Aero design competitions with her University team. She has worked on several projects related to aerospace structures\, mission design\, and spacecraft propulsion. At SGAC\, she is a member of the ACHIEVED Mission Design Team under the Space Exploration Project Group and Communications & Outreach Team at the Diversity & Gender Equality Project Group. She has also been involved with the Women of Aeronautics and Astronautics India and Space to Reflect\, an outreach initiative for creating a diverse and inclusive community for underrepresented minorities in the space sector. She uses graphic design and illustration as a medium to express her passion for space exploration.

She is currently the National Point of Contact for Nicaragua and general coordinator of the Open Course Introduction to Space Engineering. Roxy received the SGAC Pioneer Award 2021 for her contributions in SGAC and the space sector. She was also selected as a student Scholar for the Grace Hopper Celebration\, the largest gathering of women in computing. Currently she is working as a lead of the Command & Data Handling and Comms subsystems on a Mercury Sample Return Mission Design for the SGAC Space Exploration Project Group. Roxy is the president of the Society of Women in Space Exploration Costa Rica. She is a young female passionate about space\, who is driven by diversity and inclusion and who strongly promotes space education in her homeland Nicaragua.  \nRoxy has worked on a CubeSat design with the Brazilian National Institution of Space Research – INPE\, she worked on the design of a Lunar Hospital using Lava tubes during her virtual Analog Astronaut training. She recently co-designed\, supervised and produced a web app solution to determine the safest and most suitable sites for shelters for the Caribbean coast in Nicaragua. The team used Sentinel-1\, elevation and land cover derived from FAO’s SEPAL cloud platform and Google Earth Engine to derive low\, medium and high shelter suitability. \nMabony Sanchez is studying a master’s degree in Physical Sciences at (UTP)- Technological University of Panama. She is currently the National Point of Contact of Panama in SGAC and is also a member of the National Committee of Astronomy Teaching (NAEC)\, Mabony herself is a high school Physics teacher. Through SGAC and NAEC\, she has had the opportunity to work on teaching and disseminating astronomy in schools and space sciences\, such as the use of CanSat as a pedagogical tool\, cooperation with the Panamanian Space Science Olympics\, participation in events of 100 hours of astronomy of the IAU\, Jury of Space Apps Challenge in Panama\, advisor in the competition of CanSat with the National Institute of Space Research of Brazil – INPE. \nShe recently was selected by the National Secretariat of Science and Technology as a researcher and is working on the development of electrodes created from biomass for sodium ion batteries. Mabony is passionate about Physical Sciences\, Space Sciences and Renewable Energies and the great benefits they provide to society. \n

DESCRIPTION:To commemorate the Diversity Month\, the Diversity and Gender Equality Project Group from the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC)\, also known as Our Giant Leap\, has come up with a series of webinars to showcase women of SGAC. For each webinar\, 2 to 3 women from each one of the SGAC regions will speak about their background and professional experience\, including their role within SGAC. \nJoin us during your lunch or coffee break and enjoy a nice 30 to 45 minutes of discussion with the panelists. You will be able to engage with them in the chat and ask your questions.  \nThis second episode will feature women from the South American region. \nUse #AskOurGiantLeap to ask all your questions before\, during and after the Panel on social media. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW  \nVictoria Carter-Cortez\n \nBorn in Sucre\, Bolivia\, Victoria has a background in Astrophysics and aspires to work in the development of space programs. She currently works as a Space Strategy Consultant of the multinational company PwC\, where she actively participates in projects that support both the public and private sectors in decision-making\, the development of space policies and the performance of economic impact assessments. \nPreviously\, Victoria worked for the European Space Agency at its Foreign Office in Washington D.C. There she analyzed the developments of the main space actors and worked to strengthen the links between the European Space Agency\, NASA and other actors in the aerospace sector. Victoria completed her MSc at University College London where\, in association with the Mullard Space Science Laboratory\, she investigated the erratic X-ray auroras on Jupiter. Opening up opportunities in science and technology\, particularly for women\, is something Victoria is passionate about. To this end\, she has worked as an academic mentor internationally\, sharing her passion for space and teaching interactive courses to motivate and inspire the next generation of space scientists and engineers. \n  \nIsi Casas del Valle \nIsi Casas del Valle is a Chilean astropreneur. She holds a bachelor’s in laws (summa cum laude) from Universidad de los Andes (Chile)\, where she specialized in comparative law and legal English\, and minored in basic sciences. With a keen interest in air and space\, she worked as an air attorney for a boutique law firm in Chile whilst undergoing a postgraduate degree in Air and Space Law in UDIMA & the Instituto Iberoamericano de Derecho Aeronáutico y del Espacio y de la Aviación Comercial in Spain.  She was awarded the Secure World Foundation’s Ray Williamson Future Fund Scholarship to attend the Southern Hemisphere Space Studies Program of the International Space University hosted in Adelaide\, Australia; and presented the paper resulting from the program at the International Aeronautical Congress (IAC) in Bremen\, supported by Secure World Foundation’s IAC Young Professionals Scholarship. Moreover\, she was also one of the awardees of the Emerging Space Leader Award of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF)\, to attend the IAC in Dubai. \n  \nRoxy Williams \nRoxy Williams is NPOC of Nicaragua in SGAC and is the president of the Society of Women in Space Exploration CR. She worked on a CubeSat design with INPE. She was a GHC Student Scholar participating in the largest gathering of women in computing. She co-design an app to determine the most suitable sites for shelters in the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua; Sentinel-1\, elevation and land cover derived from FAO’s SEPAL cloud platform and Google Earth Engine was used to derive low\, medium and high shelter suitability. Currently Roxy is working as the lead of CDH and Comms subsystems on a Mercury Sample Return Mission design with the SEPG.

A veteran of five Space Shuttle flights and seven spacewalks\, Parazynski’s final mission was highlighted by a dramatic\, unplanned EVA to repair a live solar array. Scott received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Stanford University\, and then continued on to graduate with honors from Stanford Medical School. He trained for a career in emergency medicine and trauma at Harvard and then at Denver. Thereafter\, Scott was selected to join NASA’s Astronaut Corps. After retiring from NASA\, he pursued entrepreneurial opportunities in the private sector. He is a founder and CEO of Fluidity Technologies start-up\, focused on the development of revolutionary input devices powered by machine learning to intuitively move through physical and virtual space. On May 20\, 2009\, he became the first person to have both flown in space and summited Mount Everest\, the highest point on Earth.

In 2015\, she left St Lucia to pursue an Integrated Masters degree in Astrophysics in the UK. Cheyenne’s passion for Space came full circle back to her home island when was appointed as St Lucia’s first National Point of Contact (NPoC) in the Space Generation Advisory Council. Her efforts as NPoC led to co-founding St Lucia’s first national Astronomy Association (LUNAA) to provide an avenue for Space and Science enthusiasts to connect. In her capacity as President of LUNAA\, she is also continuing her SGAC mission to raise awareness of the benefits of Space technology to St Lucia and the rest of the Caribbean region.Day-to-day\, Cheyenne is using her love for numbers and problem solving in the Finance Technology industry as an Analytics Specialist. Outside of work\, she is still very active in the space community as an international speaker\, mentor and science communicator. This dedication stems from a wider career goal of increasing gender and ethnic diversity in Science\, Technology\, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields\, especially Physics. \n  \nMariam Naseem\n \nMariam is currently working with the Industry Relations team at the Canadian Space Agency. She is also a Visiting Scholar at the Blue Marble Space Institute of Science and a research collaborator on Ocean Worlds science with a scientist at NASA Goddard. She has a BSc. in Electrical Engineering from UT Austin and an MBA from the University of Toronto. Mariam brings a global and multi-disciplinary background to the space sector\, having worked as a commercial space consultant\, as a technology strategist in the Enterprise Innovation team at one of the largest banks in Canada\, as a field engineer on an oil rig in Russia\, a manufacturing engineer in a Product Development center in Texas and as a business development manager for a Toronto-based Quantum computing startup. She serves as National Point of Contact for Canada and as a Mentorship Committee member at the Space Generation Advisory Council\, as coordinator for the Next Generation Plenary at the International Astronautical Federation’s Workforce Development and Young Professionals Programme Committee and as a SEDS-Canada Advisory Board member. \n  \nSapna Rao\n \nSapna Rao is a Systems Engineer at Lockheed Martin Commercial Civil Space. She has worked on human space exploration missions ranging from the Artemis missions to cryogenic demonstration missions. Her focuses are on Systems Architecture and applying Machine Learning to space missions. Additionally\, she is passionate about Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion and is an active member in Lockheed Martin’s Women’s Impact Network where she organizes professional development events for women and minorities. She is also working with the Space Frontier Foundation to create a Diversity Equity and Inclusion toolkit to aid organizations and conferences. She prioritizes STEM outreach and is an advocate for minority representation in engineering. In this 1st edition of 2022 we welcome Miss Dimitra Stefoudi from the International Institute of Space Law and Mr. Alexandros Zacharis from the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity. \nREGISTER NOWConfirmed speakers:\n\n\n\nDimitra Stefoudi\n\n\n\nDimitra Stefoudi is a PhD Candidate in International Space Law at the University of Leiden (NL). She conducts her doctoral research on “The Legal and Policy Aspects of Space Big Data” with support from the Netherlands Space Office and the European Space Agency. She gives lectures in space law for the Advanced LL.M. in Air and Space Law at Leiden University\, focusing on the topics of space applications\, privacy and cybersecurity in space activities\, export control\, and space resource utilization. She is Adjunct Faculty and Governing Member of the International Space University. She is Individual Member of the International Institute of Space Law and member of the European Centre for Space Law and the Nederlandse Vereniging voor Ruimtevaart. \n\n\n\nAlexandros Zacharis\n\n\n\nMr. Zacharis currently holds a position as an Officer in Network and Information Security for ENISA\, dealing with the Design and Technical Implementation of Cyber Security Exercises (CYBER EUROPE). Prior to that\, he has also worked as Deputy Cyber Security Manager for the European Global Navigation Satellite Systems Agency (GSA now EUSPA) in Prague\, CZ\, dealing with Risk and Vulnerability Management of the Galileo Infrastructure. In the previous years (2011-2015) he worked as a Security Officer for GRNET dealing with Compliance\, Development & Maintenance of Security Policies. He has also served as the GRNET- CERT Representative (National Academic & Research Security Incident Response Team) dealing with: – Cyber Attack Analysis\, Penetration Testing\, Corporate Forensics – Malware Analysis\, Incident Handling\, Incident Response His research interests include: Computer Security and Computer Forensics\, sensors and Data Hiding. He has also participated on DEFCON 22\, presenting exploitation methods on PoS systems inside airports.

DESCRIPTION:Introduction to SGAC Mentoring Program: \nIn this part\, we will provide a quick introduction to SGAC\, the mentoring program and how the matching process will be executed. \nStudents Doing Sci Comm:\nThis webinar features student science communicators within the space field. Their experiences and journeys will be shared\, encouraging students and young professionals to create their own platforms. We will tackle student-specific topics and discuss how to share your knowledge while still in the midst of your studies.  \nREGISTER HEREConfirmed speakers: \nJasmine Singh \nJasmine Singh is a senior double majoring in Planetary Science and Atmospheric Science. Ever since she was little\, she has had a passion for space and space travel. Jasmine believes humanity’s curiosity is what drives us to explore unknown worlds in and out of our solar system. In our species’ insatiable hunger for answers within our universe\, She believes that one of the most intriguing of those questions is about other planets’ atmospheres\, which will help us in the search for signs of extraterrestrial life. She interned at NASA Goddard this past summer\, working on an exoplanet climate model emulator\, focusing on factors that influence exoplanet habitability. Jasmine is currently applying to grad school to obtain a PhD in Planetary Science. \nTheodora Girgis \nTheodora (Theo) is a third-year student at the University of Toronto majoring in Aerospace Engineering and minoring in Business. Theo is also the lead and one of the hosts on the University of Toronto Aerospace Team’s (UTAT) new podcast project titled “The Sound of Space” (available on all major audio streaming platforms). She is always looking forward to keeping up with what’s going in the aerospace community\, have interesting conversations\, and learn from other people’s experiences and perspectives! \nDr. Gavin Tolometti \nDr. Gavin Tolometti is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Western Ontario with a research focus on lunar surface processes and planetary remote sensing analysis. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Geology at the University of St Andrews in Scotland in 2016 and his PhD in Earth and Planetary Science at the University of Western Ontario in 2021. Working with the Institute for Earth and Space Exploration and international collaborators\, Gavin seeks to further our understanding of the harsh environment in the lunar poles\, and learn how impact cratering and volcanism has modified the surfaces of planetary bodies in our Solar System. In addition to his research\, Gavin is an advocate for science communication through his podcast platform called the Diaries of Space Explorers\, where he aims to bridge the gap between the space sector and the public. Seeing how the space sector is slowly becoming a more diverse industry\, Gavin wants to help make it stronger and more inclusive by reaching out to incredible people in the space sector and sharing their stories with the world.
