SUMMARY:What Space can do for WI 5
DESCRIPTION:What Space can do for WI\n(The “WI” in the title is a play on the word “we”. WI stands for West Indies\, which is another name the collection Caribbean of islands with similar history/culture is called. The phrasing of the title also represents common Caribbean dialect so instead of saying “What space can do for us”\, some Caribbean natives might say “What Space can do for we”). \nBased on the 17th Sustainable Development Goal\, the purpose of this webinar is to discuss ways to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize Global Partnerships for Sustainable Development in the Caribbean. A successful sustainable development agenda requires partnerships between governments\, the private sector and civil society. These inclusive partnerships\, built upon principles and values\, a shared vision\, and shared goals that place the Caribbean and its citizens at the centre of the partnership. \nThis webinar will also discuss ways that space technologies can enable: \n1) international cooperation initiatives\, \n2) the exchange of data and information\, \n3) the sharing of infrastructure and exchange of\ntechnical know-how\, and \n4) give access to open source databases in an effort to create a unified Caribbean space agenda. \n  \nREGISTER HERE  \n

SUMMARY:Protection of drought-resilient soil moisture areas using satellite data
DESCRIPTION:Droughts and low rainfalls are the new conditions for the countries in the Pacific Ocean region. \nWildfires have destroyed ecosystems in Central America\, California\, Australia\, and New Zealand. \nSatellite images detect areas that keep the soil moisture even with these tough conditions. United Nations sustainability goals must protect these resilient regions. The use of surveillance systems using satellites could be a practical and low-cost approach to analyse the data in real-time. \n  \nREGISTER HERE  \nYour Speaker \nFernando Roque is a teacher at Geo University about GIS\, satellite data\, and droughts. Additionally\, he is an SAP HANA expert in Machine Learning in Michael Management SAP training. \n  \n

SUMMARY:What Space can do for WI 4
DESCRIPTION:What Space can do for WI\n(The “WI” in the title is a play on the word “we”. WI stands for West Indies\, which is another name the collection Caribbean of islands with similar history/culture is called. The phrasing of the title also represents common Caribbean dialect so instead of saying “What space can do for us”\, some Caribbean natives might say “What Space can do for we”). \nThis webinar will feature an introductory session discussing the potential benefits and feasibility of space technology to the Caribbean. The session on 31st July will focus on how space technology can play an integral role in the Caribbean achieving Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities & Communities. No prior Space knowledge is required \nCities by their very nature are hubs for ideas\, commerce\, culture\, science\, productivity\, social development and much more. They are an essential part of humanity’s advancement\, both socially and economically. \nHowever\, they all face unique challenges especially in the Caribbean. In addition to discussing the challenges that might impede sustainable cities and communities in the Caribbean\, the purpose of this webinar is to discuss how to maintain Caribbean cities in a way that continues to create jobs and prosperity without straining land and resources. For instance\, Space technologies can help in developing sustainable cities and communities in the Caribbean by developing Smart Cities through the application of Global Navigation Satellite Systems\, Earth Observation and Satellite Telecommunications. \nMoreover\, space technologies can also improve city services and disaster management. \n  \nREGISTER HERE  \n  \nYour Speaker \nBritt Adkins is the first space urban planner and founder of Celestial Citizen. SUMMARY:SG[Germany] 2021
DESCRIPTION:In 2021\, SG[Germany] will build upon the success of last year’s virtual event series held in November and continue the discussion about advancing the role of Germany and the German industry in the space economy within the next decade. \nThis virtual event intends to attract students and young professionals across Germany as participants. \nThe program will consist of keynote speeches and panels\, followed by a round of discussions where participants are split into groups and work together on proposed topics guided by subject matter experts from our sponsors. \n \nAs was the case last year\, the audience will have a proactive role in the event! \n  \nThe language will be English since the organisers aim to be inclusive and diverse concerning participants and panel experts. \n  \n#SGGermany #SpaceMadeinGermany \n \nWe have a few spots left for the Cyber Security Round Table. Interested?\nPlease reach out to Maren (maren.huelsmann@spacegeneration.org)  if you want to attend the event.\n  \nProgrammeRound Table TopicsProgramme\n  \n  \n \n \n  \n \n  \n  \nRound Table Topics\nDiscussions will evolve around the future of the German space ecosystem with a special focus on the following 5 issues: \nSpace Safety and Sustainability\nSpace is becoming congested and addressing the sustainability challenge is more and more complex. Stakeholders have different commercial and political interests and the only thing they have in common is wanting to be able to use the space environment for future generations. How could the new generation in Germany champion solving this issue\, promoting a responsible use of space\, while providing business opportunities to the national actors? \nCyber Security\nThis topic addresses how data may become commoditized (and even weaponized) in the future and how new space-based solutions may help increase cyber-resilience. From blockchain in space to hosting servers on the Moon\, novel and captivating solutions will be explored in conjunction with the group. \nNew Space\nThis topic looks at promising companies developed in Germany in the last 10 years and explores the pace of change of the space economy and how new companies adapt to an increasingly fast-changing ecosystem. What are the biggest innovation drivers\, opportunities\, and challenges in the country for the space sector? \nDigital Earth Twin\nClimate change\, deforestation\, depletion of resources\, overpopulation… how can a digital Earth twin help predicting the future? What inputs and outputs are needed to create smart(er) cities\, ensure food security\, and maintain ecological health? How can an interactive model of the Earth (that accurately reflects diverse physical aspects of our planet) help society\, politicians\, and even machines make informed/better decisions in Germany? \nDownstream Applications\nDownstream applications – Downstream applications of EO and GNSS data have generated an ever-growing market with many new players emerging. This is a true opportunity of NewSpace start-ups completing the entire value chain of space-based services. What are the most promising applications and what is their impact? \n  \nSponsors\nThe team of SG[Germany] and SGAC thank our sponsors for their contributions. The event could not have happened without their generous support! \n\nGOLD SPONSORS and PARTNERS\n\n  \n  \n\nSILVER SPONSORS and PARTNERS\n\n  \n  \n\n  \n  \n\nBRONZE SPONSORS and PARTNERS\n\n  \n  \n\nLOCAL PARTNER (Media)\n  \n\nSUPPORTED BY\n\nEvent Manager\n\n\n\nMaren Hülsmann\nmaren.huelsmann@spacegeneration.org\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:What Space can do for WI 3
DESCRIPTION:What Space can do for WI\n(The “WI” in the title is a play on the word “we”. WI stands for West Indies\, which is another name the collection Caribbean of islands with similar history/culture is called. The phrasing of the title also represents common Caribbean dialect so instead of saying “What space can do for us”\, some Caribbean natives might say “What Space can do for we”). \nThe session on 29th May will focus on how space technology can play an integral role in the Caribbean achieving Sustainable Development Goal 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth. No prior Space knowledge is required. \nRecent advancements in technology have made small satellites like Cubesats and Nanosats easier to make and more cost effective. In addition\, the development of reusable launch vehicles has driven down the cost of getting satellites into space. \nThese two factors make it a lot more feasible for the Caribbean to build and launch satellites that can be used for communications\, earth observation or remote sensing. All of these applications can provide valuable information to help with climate change\, coastal monitoring and agriculture\, which have an economic impact. \nIn addition\, NewSpace Startups and several Space Agencies have now provided Open Access to their Satellite Imagery and Astronomical data. In this breakout room\, we’ll discuss how some of these new trends (CubeSats\, Open Data\, Astropreneurship\, Astrotourism and more) can be used to create exciting job opportunities and drive sustainable economic growth and progress throughout the region. \n  \n  \nREGISTER HERE  \n
