Ltd.\, an insect biorefinery start-up company based in Singapore that is converting agro-industrial waste into a healthier drop-in replacement for palm oil\, biofuels\, and other functional ingredients such as alternative protein for future space food. \nMr. Muhammad Hafez Ahmat Murtza is the Founder & CEO of Apadilangit and Universe Awareness Malaysia. Apadilangit (translated as What’s in the sky) is a space science education programme which he founded back in 2016  in Malaysia\, meanwhile Universe Awareness Malaysia is another educational program focusing on astronomy\, which he founded in collaboration with Leiden University and UNESCO. He is actively involved in space education and outreach programmes in Malaysia and also in the international astronomy community as part of the International Astronomical Union (IAU). \nApart from that\, he also holds several key portfolios such as the President of Malaysia Space Initiative (MiSI)\, National Coordinator for Astronomer without Borders (AWB) and Board Director of SpaceIN\, a satellite building company in Malaysia. \nMs. Lynette Tan is the founding CEO of the Singapore Space & Technology Limited\, which also serves as the trade federation for the Singapore space community. She develops and leads the various programmes of SSTL\, including providing business match-making\, accelerator programmes\, technical training for the industry. Lynette also oversees the mentoring of start-ups and adopting new technologies into the sector\, for example AI\, machine learning for space. \nAnother key mission of SSTL\, which Lynette is extremely passionate about\, is to promote the interest in Science\, Technology\, Engineering and Mathematics\, to grow talents for the space industry. \nDr. Potiwat Ngamkajornwiwat is the co-founder of Space ZAB\, a company that focuses on space education and research in Thailand. At Space ZAB\, he leads Space*Lab\, a virtual lab and a learning platform for middle-income countries. This online space education experience is an effort to reduce barriers to access space information and technology among the countries. \nHe also has served as the Junior Science Talent Project (JSTP) at the National Science And Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) in Thailand. He brings with him his design expertise\, combining art\, science and technology at each camp to inspire the children. CAN-ARX is Canada’s only competition for post-secondary students to design an experiment for Canada’s Arctic. The CAN-ARX challenge is designed to be a real-world opportunity for students to conduct meaningful scientific research in Canada’s arctic.\nSEDS-Canada’s goal is to train the next generation of Canadian scientists and engineers through space-related opportunities and experiences for students. Canada’s Arctic provides a unique environment for planetary science\, space science\, and instrumentation experiments as it is a good analogue for Mars and icy bodies. DESCRIPTION:SG[Egypt] will be the first-ever SGAC event in Egypt\, which provides a platform for national and international stakeholders and space industry experts to engage in discussions with Egypt’s most talented space youth and provide key recommendations to the UN COPUOS general assembly.  \nThe discussions will focus on lunar exploration\, space medicine\, and diversity in space\, which are at the centre of Egypt’s national space strategy. There will be a special focus on international cooperation\, capacity building\, increasing representation of minorities in the space sector\, and leveraging indigenous space capabilities in Egypt and other emerging space countries.  \nParticipants will play a critical role in inspiring the next generation of Egyptian space leaders\, \nand in creating a more sustainable ecosystem for Egypt’s next frontier. \n#SG_Egypt #EgyptNextFrontier \nWe’re happy to announce that the registrations are now live! DESCRIPTION:An increasing number of lunar missions is planned in the 2020’s\, to build sustainable infrastructure to live and work on the Moon. This requires to create an ecosystem involving many sectors (transportation\, energy\, resources\, communications\, health\, entertainment). As technology progresses\, companies develop new business models\, products and services that foresee a lunar ecosystem. Public Private partnership\, international cooperation and inspiration are key factors to enable these collective endeavours\, supported by communication and entertainment. \n  \nAll these aspects already exist in many different sectors: gathering the know-how\, best practices and participation of these non-space actors is essential to build a sustainable lunar ecosystem. He is also a member of the science team for the PROSPECT (ESA) project which is part of the Luna 27 mission to the Moon (Roscosmos). \nDr. Carlos Espejel has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Mining Engineering at the University of Queensland\, a Master’s Degree in Mining Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney\, and a PhD in Mining Engineering at the University of Queensland. In addition he is currently doing a Postdoctoral Project on Space Resource Utilization (SRU) in Luxembourg in collaboration with a number of institutions (ispace\, UNSW\, University of Luxembourg\, and Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR)). \nBefore Dr. Espejel joined the space industry he worked for around 10 years in the international mining industry (Metalliferous Mining) as a Strategic Mine Planning Engineer\, particularly in Scoping\, Pre-feasibility\, Feasibility\, and applied research studies for green field (new projects) and brown field (operations) Tier 1 companies as Glencore\, Anglo American\, BHP\, Teck and CRCORE. \nRomain Charles \nSpaceship FR – Support officer for CNES at MEDES – Institute for Space Medicine and Physiology \nRomain Charles of French nationality received a Masters degree in Engineering from the French Institute of Advanced Mechanics in Clermont-Ferrand\, France and worked for 6 years in the automotive industry as a quality engineer. In 2010\, he was selected by the European Space Agency to become the Flight Engineer of the Mars 500 crew. This mission of 520 days simulated a journey to Mars between the 3rd of June 2010 and the 4th of November 2011. \nFor more than 7 years\, he then worked as a crew support engineer at the European Astronaut Center in Cologne\, Germany. His tasks covered the management of the European Space Food\, the upload of private items for the astronauts\, the organization and participation in the Launch and Landing campaigns in Kazakhstan and the organization of all the private video conferences between the astronauts’ families and the ISS. \nHe’s now helping CNES to create the “Spaceship FR” structure in Toulouse\, France. The goal of the “Spaceship” network\, coordinated by ESA\, is to prepare the future of exploration. \nKsenija Milicevic Neumann \nKsenija Milicevic Neumann works as Senior Researcher at IME Process Metallurgy and Metal Recycling Institute (RWTH Aachen University) on Battery Recycling\, Space Resources and Zero-emission Metallurgy. \n  \nShe is an experienced engineer and Project Manager with a demonstrated history of working in (aero)space and renewable energy fields with the focus on ISRU\, electrochemical\, material and metallurgical technologies. She worked on multiple international projects with companies such as German Aerospace Centre and Airbus and wrote many project proposals (Horizon 2020\, BMBF\, DFG\, DAAD) acquiring further funding. \nMiguel Angel Olivares Mendez \nDr. Olivares Mendez joined in 2013 the Interdisciplinary Center for Security Reliability and Trust (SnT) at the University of Luxembourg (Uni.Lu)\, as Associate Researcher in the Automation & Robotics Research Group. In December 2016 he became Research Scientist and major responsible for the research activities on mobiles robotics in the Automation & Robotics Research Group at the SnT-University of Luxembourg. In addition\, the development of reusable launch vehicles has driven down the cost of getting satellites into space.  \nThese two factors make it a lot more feasible for the Caribbean to build and launch satellites that can be used for communications\, earth observation or remote sensing. All of these applications can provide valuable information to help with climate change\, coastal monitoring and agriculture\, which have an economic impact.  \nIn addition\, NewSpace Startups and several Space Agencies have now provided Open Access to their Satellite Imagery and Astronomical data. Her research background covers the use of optics to derive information about the oceans. \nShe has worked throughout the satellite data value chain from the validation of satellite sensor measurements\, to algorithm development and data use for various applications including harmful algal blooms and water quality services for aquaculture\, ocean heat flux\, carbon pools\, climate model validation and marine spatial planning. She is a keen programmer\, focusing exclusively on open source tools\, and a passionate science communicator seeking novel ways to use new media to share science with new satellite data users and the public. \nPrior to her current role\, Hayley worked for 5 years as a Marine Earth Observation Scientist at Plymouth Marine Laboratory. She obtained a PhD in ocean remote sensing from the University of Cape Town\, South Africa in 2014. \nDaria Stepanova \nDaria is a CTO at German Orbital Systems GmbH\, Small Satellite Project Group (SSPG) co-leader\, aerospace engineer\, researcher and enthusiast with 7 years of experience in small satellites and subsystems design from idea to implementation\, launch and operations. She was leading 8 CubeSat missions for various applications starting from Earth Observation to AIS and space weather monitoring. \nFor almost two years she has been spreading the knowledge about small satellites through SGAC SSPG. During this time the project group has conducted several researches on small satellite utilization supported by different organisations (e.g. UNICEF). Prior experience includes programming\, banking\, air-traffic control and intellectual property rights management. \nDuring his 6-year work at the World Space Week Association\, WSWA at the leading positions: national coordinator in Croatia\, global coordinator\, operations manager and executive director\, he significantly contributed to the growth of the World space Week\, the largest global space event. Goran received the Service Award in 2017 for dedication and service in the World Space Week Association. Areas of his interest are Human Spaceflights and Earth Observation. \nVernesa Smolčić is a full professor at the Physics Department\, Faculty of Science University of Zagreb. Her main area of research is astrophysics\, and in particular observational\, big data studies of galaxies\, and their evolution in time\, from early epochs of the universe until today. She held one of the most competitive European research grants (the European Research Council Starting grant)\, which allowed her to build an international team of researchers at the University of Zagreb (2014-2019). She is a member of the scientific steering committees of the international research projects COSMOS and XXL\, and one of the three leaders of the COSMOS team\, she is the head of the graduate studies module ‘Astrophysics’ at University of Zagreb and the Physics Council for Doctoral Studies at the Faculty of Science University of Zagreb. \nHaving returned to Croatia in 2013\, she spent almost a decade developing her career abroad\, in Germany\, the USA\, and Australia. \nAt this webinar\, Vernesa will share with us her creative side. She is an author and a coordinator at Astroučionica\, a digital platform with the aim to explain space science\, the universe and everything in it in simple words. Beside creating educational and entertaining content for Youtube\, Facebook and TikTok\, Vernesa is a co-author and collaborator on other creative projects: Astrokuharica (eng. He is the author of several articles at the astronomical portal www.zvjezdarnica.com\, and on the astrophotography blog astro.beer. He has given lectures related to astrophotography at around thirty popular science and astronomical events. At his lecture “Astrophotography through the prism of humanity” Saša will cover topics such as: How do camera sensors see the universe\, and how do we experience it? Are measuring instruments enough for humanity? What is our space perspective\, what is humans’ position in space? \nKsenija Kušec was born in 1965 in Zagreb. She graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and the Academy of Music at University of Zagreb (Wind Instruments Department: Saxophone). She worked in education. Since the beginning of 2016\, she has been a member of the Croatian Association of Independent Artists. She has won several short story awards. She has published numerous stories in anthologies\, magazines and on literature portals. The book Prozirna Lili (eng. Transparent Lili) is currently being translated into Ukrainian (Volodimyr Krinitsky). In 2014\, the Puppet Factory Theater performed the play The Universe\, which was based on an adaptation of the book Priče iz sunčeva sustava (eng. Tales from the Solar System). She writes screenplays for movies and has published nine books. She loves the underwater world and sometimes dives. Her wish is to become a pilot of Cessna\, because she loves airplanes. \nAt the webinar she will speak about her book published in 2010. called “Tales from the Solar System”\, a collection of stories about planets and other bodies of our Solar system where she intertwines real facts with imaginary moments. \nGoran Hudec was born in Zagreb\, where he finished the XV. Mathematics and Physics Gymnasium\, in the first generation of students. He graduated in Computer Engineering and Informatics in 1973 from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering\, University of Zagreb. In 1978 he obtained a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Electrical Engineering in 1992. Goran is currently employed at the Faculty of Textile Technology\, University of Zagreb\, as a full professor where he teaches electrical engineering courses. He was the leader of a number of projects\, from innovative student projects to the IT industry. He is the author of a patent\, and three university textbooks. He is the author of around 80 publications at TV Kalendar (author of text\, selection of videos\, editing). He was the president of the Croatian Aerospace Society and vice-president of the association “Korak po korak”. He is an active athlete\, enjoying long-distance running\, triathlon and mountain running. \nWhen she was a young girl\, Nena Brozan Perišić dreamed of becoming an astronaut\, but in the end she decided to study at the Faculty of Civil Engineering\, University of Rijeka and became a master engineer in civil engineering. Her passion and love for science and space inspired her to join Cultural Front\, an association which promotes culture and science among young people in the city of Opatija. As an active member of the association\, she participated in the organization and led various workshops\, quizzes and events for young people and children. She has been the main program coordinator of the international science fiction and fantasy festival Liburnicon. \nAt this webinar\, Nena will cover the topic: How to promote science among young people? The Cultural Front Association found the answer to this question: through interesting workshops – from making astronaut suits to levitating rockets\, games\, quizzes and popular lectures by leading scientists – at the annual festival Liburnicon. The festival program combines educational and entertaining content with the participation of organizers\, volunteers\, guests\, exhibitors and visitors themselves\, which according to previous experiences is the perfect recipe for an unforgettable summer weekend in Opatija. And learning is always easier when having fun – would you agree? \nDominik Vuković was born in Zagreb in 1990. He gained his master’s degree in applied graphics and illustration at the Academy of Fine Arts in 2015. He participated in many art colonies and workshops and was awarded with prizes for his work. He exhibited in several group exhibitions and four solo ones. His solo exhibition “Hahari i žabe” (eng. “Hahari and frogs”)\, a series of red drawings about childhood and growing up\, was set up in the art gallery Lauba in Zagreb and attracted the attention of art experts and the audience. After graduation\, he worked in the collective “Space Shuttle” with his colleagues Klara Rusan and Martin Hrastić. He collaborated with the collective Pimp my Pump in the street art studio Lapo-Lapo and became acquainted with the making of murals. He collaborates with the Croatian publishing houses in Croatia on illustrating novels and picture books. He lives and works as a freelance illustrator\, graphic artist and painter in Zagreb\, and since 2019 he has been working as an external associate at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in the graphic department. \nHe believes that art\, just like science\, is an evidence of human existence. At the webinar he will tell us more about his latest exhibition: “The Journey of the Golden Record”\, a homage to the Voyager Golden Records\, the two phonograph records that were included aboard both Voyager spacecraft launched in 1977. \nMirta Medanić is a program manager at Amphinicy Technologies\, a satellite software company from Zagreb and Luxembourg. At Amphinicy\, she manages several EU-funded projects. One of them is Blink\, a software solution for ultra-fast acquisition and processing of Earth observation data\, granted by the Horizon 2020 program for innovative SMEs in the Space sector. She holds a master’s degree in Telecommunications and Computing from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing\, the University in Zagreb (FER). She completed Space Studies Program 2019 at the International Space University in Strasbourg and calls herself a Space Optimist. \nShe has volunteered at the SGAC from 2017. As a former National Point of Contact in Croatia\, she promotes space science and education among the young community in the country. Mirta is passionate about working with people and travelling.

The importance of proper nutrition and education\, both for fellow students and the general population\, brought her to the position of “Junior Conference Anchor” within ENDietS (European Network of Dietetic Students. \nAlma Kugić was born in Pula on November 1\, 1989. She graduated in fashion design at the TTF (2015) in Zagreb and decided to study architecture at the Technical University of Vienna. During both studies she was active in the field of design and art and worked in numerous theatres in Austria and Germany. She had several art exhibitions in the Pula area\, and since 2015 she has been a member of the Croatian Design Society. \nHer study of architecture took her to a completely new and insufficiently researched branch of design – space architecture. Dalibor Paar\, Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics\, Faculty of Science\, University of Zagreb\, holds a PhD in solid state physics – superconducting microwave spectroscopy\, and specializes in NMR and NQR research on solid materials. A more recent area of his research is multidisciplinary scientific research in karst with an emphasis on physical processes in caves and pits as complex systems. He participated in a series of speleological research with special emphasis on deep caves and pits as natural windows into the Earth’s interior through which it is possible to study physical\, geological\, hydrological\, chemical and other properties and processes. Dalibor is the initiator of projects in the field of popularization of science and early scientific (STEAM) education. \nAs a geographer\, Lena Penezić is a passionate diver and caver\, who finds her inspiration in nature. She is active in numerous associations in which she participates in underground and underwater research. Through the webinar she will bring us closer to the weightlessness of the experience of divers. Lena is the owner of Geosfera\, through which she develops her knowledge and skills in the application of GIS\, drones and environmental research. She is currently working in “Priroda”\, a public institution for the management of protected nature areas in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. \nMirta Medanić is a program manager at Amphinicy Technologies\, a satellite software company from Zagreb and Luxembourg. At Amphinicy\, she manages several EU-funded projects. One of them is Blink\, a software solution for ultra-fast acquisition and processing of Earth observation data\, granted by the Horizon 2020 program for innovative SMEs in the Space sector. She holds a master’s degree in Telecommunications and Computing from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing\, the University in Zagreb (FER). She completed the Space Studies Program 2019 at the International Space University in Strasbourg and calls herself a Space Optimist. Mirta is an SGAC Alumna and a former SGAC National Point of Contact in Croatia. She promotes space science and education among the young community in the country. Mirta is passionate about working with people and travelling.

Her work experiences are in biomedical engineering\, human factors\, mission design\, analogue missions\, space medicine and leadership.\nIlaria has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Pisa (Italy) and a structured PhD in Neural Engineering from the National University of Ireland Galway (Republic of Ireland). She is also a graduate of the Space Studies Program run by the International Space University at TU Delft (The Netherlands). More recently\, she has completed a Postdoc at Tufts University (USA) in Neuromodulation.\nIlaria is a Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association\, Past-President of the Aerospace Human Factors Association\, Member-at-Large of the Aerospace Medical Council\, an invited member of The Mars Society Steering Committee and part of the Space Generation Advisory Council.​ She is also one of the 35 most influential women in space identified in 2019 as a Mentor and Role Model of the Space4Women network of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs. \nDr Cyprien Verseux \nDr Cyprien Verseux is an astrobiologist who founded and currently leads the ZARM’s Laboratory of Applied Space Microbiology\, which develops biology-based technologies in support of future crewed missions beyond Earth. Prior to this\, in 2018 (at age 27)\, he was the Station Leader and a Field Glaciologist at the Concordia research station (Antarctica)\, where he spent a year. \nIn 2015-2016\, he served as the Crew Biologist during the NASA-funded HI-SEAS IV mission\, where he lived isolated for 366 with 5 other people in a small dome on a Hawaiian volcano. In parallel to his work as a researcher he writes books.

She is currently working at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering\, Computer Science\, and Information Technology (FERIT) in Osijek. As a postdoc she spent about ten years researching at some world-renowned scientific institutions like Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam\, Institute for Astronomy in Honolulu\, KU Leuven Centre for Mathematical Plasma-Astrophysics\, Queen Mary University of London and INAF – Observatory of Capodimonte in Italy. \nMarina is very active in education and outreach of young generations of future scientists and engineers\, which makes her a perfect speaker for this episode of SGAC Croatia Webinar Series. \nGiuliana Verbanac is an associate professor at the Faculty of Science\, University of Zagreb. She obtained the master’s degree in atomic and molecular physics and astrophysics and a PhD in physics\, a branch of geophysics.\nAs winner of American and European scholarships\, she has developed and gained scientific skills at varied institutions and universities. She has been a visiting scientist at the Department of Astronomy\, University of Berkeley and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California\, Geophysical Institute in Trieste\, Potsdam Geophysical Institute in Germany\, and Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy in Brussels. Her fields of research are interdisciplinary\, embracing space physics\, with the major focus on the Sun-Earth interactive system\, magnetospheric physics\, and planetary magnetism.\nGiuliana is actively involved in the popularization of science. She has given a series of popular science lectures and has published popular papers. \nGiuliana holds the position of a national point of contact of the Europlanet Space Society. \nVernesa Smolčić is a full professor at the Physics Department\, Faculty of Science University of Zagreb. Her main area of research is astrophysics\, and in particular observational\, big data studies of galaxies\, and their evolution in time\, from early epochs of the universe until today. She held one of the most competitive European research grants (the European Research Council Starting grant)\, that allowed her to build an international team of researchers at the University of Zagreb (2014-2019). She is a member of the scientific steering committees of the international research projects COSMOS and XXL\, and one of the three leaders of the COSMOS team\, she is the head of the graduate studies module ‘Astrophysics’ at University of Zagreb and the Physics Council for Doctoral Studies at the Faculty of Science University of Zagreb. \nHaving returned to Croatia in 2013\, she spent almost a decade developing her career abroad\, in Germany\, the USA\, and Australia. \nProfile photo taken by Bruno Konjević \nMirta Medanić is a program manager at Amphinicy Technologies\, a satellite software company from Zagreb and Luxembourg. At Amphinicy\, she manages several EU-funded projects. One of them is Blink\, a software solution for ultra-fast acquisition and processing of Earth observation data\, granted by the Horizon 2020 program for innovative SMEs in the Space sector. \nShe holds a master’s degree in Telecommunications and Computing from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing\, the University in Zagreb (FER). She completed the Space Studies Program 2019 at the International Space University in Strasbourg and calls herself a Space Optimist. \nMirta is an SGAC Alumna and a former SGAC National Point of Contact in Croatia. She promotes space science and education among the young community in the country. Mirta is passionate about working with people and travelling.
