SUMMARY:SG[France]2021 webinar series : The Future of the International Space Station
DESCRIPTION:Last year\, the 20th anniversary of the greatest international project of all time – the International Space Station (ISS) – was celebrated! Twenty years of ongoing human presence in space\, of scientific research in a unique microgravity environment and twenty years of acquired experience to deal with future human space explorations… But after all of this\, what is next? \nThe future of the ISS is pending on its investors. Until now\, and likely until the mid 2020s\, space agencies and mostly NASA\, were its contributors. But\, due to their new ambitions\, and with private businesses starting making their way in the station\, things will change. \nThis webinar aims at introducing the key question that will be studied during the SG[France]2021 event next month in workshop sessions: how to diversify the ISS activities to create opportunities for non-space sectors from 2025-2030? To find elements of answers for this wide question\, the various domains that will be considered during the SG[France]2021’s workshop are physical science and technology\, life science and biology\, space accessibility and space art and culture. \n  \nFor this webinar\, the participants will attend 3 speeches which are: \n\nThe ISS and its environment\, and space accessibility for businesses and industries – by Jason Aspiotis\, Business Development Manager at Axiom Space;\nThe ISS as a lab for Life Science Research – by Lucie Campagnolo\, Space and Life Sciences Expert at MEDES.\nArt and space\, an old relation – by Annick Bureaud\, Director of Leonardo/OLATS\, Member of ITACCUS & Independent art critic\, curator and event organiser in the domain of art and technosciences;\n\nThe participants will then be able to ask their questions to the experts\, followed by an interactive activity in teams on the theme of the Future of the International Space Station! \nThis webinar is part of a series preparing the upcoming SG[France]2021 event\, and will allow event’s participants and other participants to start thinking about the different topics and challenges that will be tackled during the day. \nThe Speakers: \nAnnick Bureaud \nAnnick Bureaud is an independent art critic\, curator and event organiser in the field of art and technosciences. SUMMARY:What Space can do for WI 3
DESCRIPTION:What Space can do for WI\n(The “WI” in the title is a play on the word “we”. WI stands for West Indies\, which is another name the collection Caribbean of islands with similar history/culture is called. The phrasing of the title also represents common Caribbean dialect so instead of saying “What space can do for us”\, some Caribbean natives might say “What Space can do for we”). \nThe session on 29th May will focus on how space technology can play an integral role in the Caribbean achieving Sustainable Development Goal 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth. No prior Space knowledge is required. \nRecent advancements in technology have made small satellites like Cubesats and Nanosats easier to make and more cost effective. In addition\, the development of reusable launch vehicles has driven down the cost of getting satellites into space. \nThese two factors make it a lot more feasible for the Caribbean to build and launch satellites that can be used for communications\, earth observation or remote sensing. All of these applications can provide valuable information to help with climate change\, coastal monitoring and agriculture\, which have an economic impact. \nIn addition\, NewSpace Startups and several Space Agencies have now provided Open Access to their Satellite Imagery and Astronomical data. In this breakout room\, we’ll discuss how some of these new trends (CubeSats\, Open Data\, Astropreneurship\, Astrotourism and more) can be used to create exciting job opportunities and drive sustainable economic growth and progress throughout the region. \n  \n  \nREGISTER HERE  \n

She later went on to study at the University of the West Indies and achieved a Bachelors in Science in Meteorology with a minor in Earth Science in 2016. \nDeanesh Ramsewak is a GIS & Remote Sensing professional with over 20 years of experience and an Assistant Professor in Practice at the Centre for Maritime and Ocean Studies at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT). He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society with the Institute of British Geographers\, an alumnus of the United States State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program and a Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineering\, Science and Technology in the United Kingdom. He has been a visiting researcher at NASA’s Ames Research Centre in Silicon Valley California\, NOAA headquarters in Washington D.C. and the Earth Observatory of Singapore at the Nanyang Technological University. \nHis research focuses on the use of space-based imagery and other geospatial technologies for environmental mapping and monitoring. He was a co-investigator on a multi-agency NASA funded project that investigated the use of large-scale drones for mapping coral and seagrass biomes in the Florida Keys. Deanesh volunteers with MapAction\, an international humanitarian organization that provides mapping support for international humanitarian crises. He also supports local science institutions and NGOs in mentoring young women and men aspiring in STEM. \nLajhon Campbell\nBorn and raised in Jamaica\, Lajhon always had a passion for science and unravelling the mysteries of the universe even as a child. That passion translated into his enrollment at Florida International University to study geosciences. His aptitude\, commitment and dedication led to him completing both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the aforementioned field of study by the age of 21\, less than 3 years after he began his academic journey at the tertiary level. Since then he has gone on to Stony Brook University where he is currently continuing the pursuit of knowledge in seeking to attain a Ph.D. in Geophysics. His current research involves looking at current fault motion in the southern California region as well as creating tectonic models of the geodynamic nature of the western United States region. \nWhen he is not doing research Lajhon likes to spend his free time exercising\, watching cricket and basketball\, reading fictional stories \,and listening to podcasts and watching videos regarding a myriad of topics. Lajhon also likes to sing\, eating homecooked food (from his grandmother) and taking both morning and evening walks to clear the mind either before or after a long day of work.
