SUMMARY:The next generation of space transportation
DESCRIPTION:The company POLARIS Spaceplanes GmbH is a pioneering enterprise in the field of space travel and has its\nroots in over 30 years of German and European spaceplane research. As a spin-off of the German Aerospace\nCenter (DLR)\, it began the development of a novel spaceplane. The concept combines airplane and rocket\nlaunch technologies and offers advantageous economic profitability as well as flexible access to regular\, cost-\neffective\, and safe space missions from the entire European mainland.\nAt the core of POLARIS’s activities is the development of the Aurora spaceplane\, a system that seamlessly\nintegrates the technologies of aircraft and rocket launchers. This innovation is not just about creating a\nreusable platform for space and hypersonic transportation; it’s about the next generation of space\ntransportation. Alongside the Aurora spaceplane\, POLARIS is also developing commercial hypersonic drones\,\nwhich serve as versatile tools for aerial reconnaissance and microgravity research applications \nREGISTER HEREAbout the speakers:  \n  \n\n\n\nAnnika is the Managing Director & Chief Commercial Officer of POLARIS Spaceplane\, a dual use New Space startup from Bremen that is building a hypersonic multipurpose platform. Their vision is an airline-like spaceplane operation that encompasses horizontal take-offs and landings from conventional airports from e.g. the European mainland. Recently\, they have flight tested their 5th subscale demonstrator under rocket power to verify their in-house developed linear aerospike engine\, which resembles a world premiere in aerospace engineering. Annika holds an engineering degree and gathered research experience on fiber composites and Digital Twins of jet engines at the DLR and the University of Cambridge. She began her career as an aerospace and public sector strategy consultant before pursuing the development of a novel space transportation system\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:5th Italian Space Startup Competition
DESCRIPTION:5th Italian Space Startup Competition\n\n\n16th – 17th March 2024\n\n\nRome\, Italy\n\n\nThe Italian Space Startup Competition (ISSC) is a startup competition whose area of interest is space in all its facets. During the two days of the event\, participants will have the opportunity to interact with experts from the space field and to work in teams\, discussing ideas and shaping them into business cases. The participants will benefit from the support of mentors\, whose backgrounds and expertise are diverse and covering different areas of the space sector. \n\n\n\n\n\nCompetition Goals\n\n\nISSC aims to promote the interest of the young generation in the space business and bring forth the next generation of entrepreneurs. ISSC encourages knowledge sharing and fosters innovation\, providing participants with the necessary backdrop to network\, learn and shape the future.\nThe event is dedicated – but not limited – to new graduates\, students and young professionals who are interested in working in the space sector and are willing to take on a challenge in a business context. The interdisciplinary nature of the event allows people from any background\, be it engineering\, law\, economics or else\, to participate. The competition is open to individuals  or teams (with or without ideas) and startups in the bootstrapping phase (no external funding received).\nParticipants without a team will have the opportunity to join/be matched with existing groups. All participants must be between the ages of 18 and 35. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe event format\n\n\nAfter the end of the registrations\, delegates with no team will be given the opportunity of entering already formed teams. \n\nIn the weeks prior to the event\, all delegates will be given an introduction to the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and effective pitch. This will happen in the form of two webinars with guest experts from the industry and academia. \n\nDuring the two-day event\, the teams will work in groups to develop their idea and shape it into a business case\, with the support of experienced mentors.\nAt the conclusion of the ISSC\, each team will present its idea in front of a jury during a pitch competition. The business ideas may include new technologies\, spin-in or spin-off\, or space data applications. \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Fast and Accurate Probability of Collision Toolkits for Near-Earth and Cislunar Applications
DESCRIPTION:With increasing traffic in near-Earth and Cislunar space\, it has become essential to develop fast and accurate methods of predicting collisions between space objects. This is an important topic of discussion in current Space Situational Awareness (SSA) domain research. Orbit determination methods provide users with a state and an uncertainty associated with an object in space. This tells the user where the spacecraft is and with what percent certainty. Because there are limited observation resources\, it is essential to have the ability to propagate this information to desired times accurately. Generally\, this is accomplished using numerical Monte Carlo methods\, where a point cloud of millions of points is taken from the initial uncertainty and each of these points are propagated to the final time. This is highly accurate with a large number of points but adds to a high computational expense. To minimize this cost\, we look for analytical and semi-analytical methods that are faster but can still reach good statistical accuracy. This seminar will focus on an introduction to SSA\, collision prediction methods\, and the semi-analytical toolkits developed to achieve fast and accurate collision probabilities. The target audience is students and young professionals interested in SSA research and tools. \nSpeaker: Yashica Khatri \n\n\n\nYashica Khatri has just defended her PhD at the University of Colorado Boulder\, focusing in Astrodynamics and Satellite Navigation (ASN). Her research is in Space Situational Awareness (SSA)\, specifically\, developing semi-analytical methods of conjunction analysis to predict the probability of collision with high speed and accuracy. She grew up in India and received her B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott\, Arizona in May 2018. At Embry-Riddle\, Yashica was a part of various honors societies\, diversity and educational organizations\, and the ERAU’s competitive Golden Eagles Flight Team. She also started a Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) chapter and assisted in bringing a Delta Phi Epsilon sorority chapter to the Embry-Riddle campus. She completed her M.S. at the University of Colorado Boulder in May 2020 and started the PhD with the Celestial and Spaceflight Mechanics Laboratory (CSML) soon after. Here\, she was named a 2021 Amelia Earhart Fellow and a 2022 Tau Beta Pi (TBP) Fellow. At CU she has been involved with the Aerospace Graduate Student Organization (AGSO)\, Women of Aeronautics and Astronautics (WoAA) India\, and Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC). During her undergraduate and graduate studies\, Yashica interned at Merit Engineering\, Collins Aerospace\, OneWeb\, and SpaceNav. Yashica is currently the Co-Lead of the SGAC Mentoring Program.\n\n\n\n \nREGISTER HERE  \n  \n

SUMMARY:9th Asia-Pacific Space Generation Workshop 2023
DESCRIPTION:The Asia-Pacific NewSpace ecosystem is currently going through significant changes as a result of the space sector’s transition\, which is being fuelled by increased investment\, predominant private players involvement\, and the emergence of NewSpace businesses with cutting-edge plans and revenue streams. Private players are taking center stage in this new ecosystem as they strive on doing space business independently of governments in the long run. \nAsia’s spacefaring nations have autonomously established their own strategies and ecosystems for space operations that are entrenched in their dominant political\, commercial\, and economic regional landscapes. Therefore\, the time has come to address the space ecosystem from a technological\, commercial\, and socioeconomic perspective with a goal to facilitate the sustainable development of the NewSpace ecosystem in the Asia-Pacific region. \n
