With the continued impact and growth of SGAC and our increased presence in various international space-related events, SGAC is seeking two volunteers to join the core SGAC team as Co-Leads of the PR and Communications Team. This position requires individuals who are creative, motivated, and self-driven and are skilled to execute vision with excellence and professionalism in a global context. This position is a key leadership role within the SGAC, providing the core direction, organization and management of the PR and Communications Team. 

The PR&Comms Co-Leads will work under the role of the Operations Manager (Matteo Cappella) and will have 1 month of training under the current PR & Comms Coordinator (Bethany Downer).

The PR&Comms Co-Leads will work under the role of the Operations Manager (Matteo Cappella) to provide strategic direction to the organization. They will work closely together to coordinate all aspects of SGAC Public Relations and Communications. This includes SGAC social media, news, newsletter, Slack Channel, branding and corporate identity, video preparation and graphic design, as well as the growth, and trends among the SGAC network and members. Specific activities include the following:

  • Contribute to the creation, and ensure implementation of the PR and Communications Strategy for the organisation
  • Organize regular meetings with the PR&Comms team
  • Liaise with external players to build partnerships
  • Create and follow through on annual strategy
  • Work with and coordinate the team members to ensure all tasks are carried out in an effective and efficient fashion
  • Liaise with the Operational Manager on a regular basis
  • Act as the focal point for PR and communication requests (social media, news, newsletter, graphic design, video preparation) and communicate such requests to the relevant PR and Communication Team members

This is a volunteer position. 

Estimated time commitment: 5-7 hours a week

Duration of term: 2 years, renewable

Necessary Qualifications

  • SGAC membership: registration on the SGAC website and below 33.5 years of age at the time of appointment
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, quick turnaround international environment and meet deadlines without compromising the quality of work
  • Professional Fluency (Speaking, Reading, and Writing) in English
  • Efficient and effective delegation and managerial skills
  • Teamwork capacity and proven leadership skills
  • Knowledge of social media tools (eg. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Hootsuite)
  • Flexible to discuss matters with the team and Operations Manager on a regular basis
  • Project and time management 
  • Communication skills: communications experience in outreach and public engagement are  preferred

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Cross-cultural and communication awareness: ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with people from various international, cultural, and professional/academic backgrounds
  • Experience/familiarity with the space sector
  • Prior experience in Public Relations/Communications and/or Marketing is a plus

As with all SGAC positions, meetings and work will be completed virtually. The selected applicant must be easily accessible via e-mail and phone on a daily basis. Communication skills and ability to respond in a timely manner are vital.
