SGAPP’s call for Policy and Advocacy Officers
The Space Generation Advocacy and Policy Platform (SGAPP) is seeking motivated volunteers to join its newly established Policy and Advocacy Team (PAT) in the following roles: (2) Policy Officers, and (1) Rapporteur.
The SGAPP is a new segment of SGAC specifically dedicated to the centralisation and coordination of policy and advocacy activities from the young generations.
To this end, the Platform will be responsible for:
- the development, implementation, and advocacy of united space policy positions on behalf of the young generations;
- the coordination, consolidation & dissemination of policy inputs within SGAC.

All the positions described below are voluntary and have no monetary compensation. Appointments will all be for 2 years, with the possibility of renewal for another term.
Policy Officers (2 positions)
Responsibilities
The Policy Officers will be responsible for assisting the SGAPP Coordinators and the Platform’s Divisions in any matter related to space policy, to support the achievement of SGAPP’s goals. This is a high-profile, unpaid, remote position reporting directly to the SGAPP Coordinators.
The core responsibilities of SGAPP’s policy officers include the following tasks:
- Support the Coordinators with the development of the Platform’s strategy, analysing the inputs received from relevant SGAC segments and contributing to the drafting of the document;
- Support the Platform’s divisions entrusted with the development, implementation and advocacy of SGAC’s space policy positions;
- Support the Platform’s divisions entrusted with the coordination, consolidation and dissemination of SGAC’s policy inputs and activities;
- Contribute to the development and finetune of the Platform’s internal processes for policy analyses and surveys, including but not limited to:
- Integrating inputs and contributions submitted by SGAC’s main stakeholders (Leadership, Regional Coordinators, PG Coordinators, Event Coordinators)
- Engaging with subject matter experts inside and outside SGAC;
- Soliciting and implementing feedback from SGAC general membership;
- Closely work with the policy and implementation officers (and related divisions).

Necessary Qualifications and Skills:
- SGAC membership: registration on the SGAC website and 33 years of age or less at the moment of the application
- Demonstrated expertise in space policy
- Good understanding of space policy trends and dynamics
- Familiarity with SGAC mission, objectives and structure
- Business/professional fluency in English
- Ability to respond quickly and efficiently to emails is vital
- Strong attention to detail is essential
- Ability to work autonomously as well as in multicultural, multidisciplinary teams
- Proven leadership and team-management skills
- A background in policy, law, or related field is not mandatory but strongly preferred
Estimated time commitment: both positions are for two-years position, with the possibility of renewals. This position foresees a minimum of 3-5 volunteering hours of SGAC work per week.
Location: As with all SGAC positions, meetings and work will be conducted virtually. Communication skills and ability to respond in a timely manner are vital.
Rapporteur (1 position)
Responsibilities
The Rapporteur will support the logistics and organizational aspects of SGAPP. This is an entry-level, unpaid, virtual position working directly with the SGAPP Coordinators.
The core responsibilities of SGAPP’s Rapporteur include the following core tasks:
- Preparation of SGAPP meetings (preparation of agenda and relevant documents)
- Documenting SGAPP meetings (note-taking and minutes drafting as necessary)
- Organizing databases and spreadsheets (gathering information within SGAPP)
- Assisting the SGAPP Coordinators with miscellaneous operational needs

- SGAC membership: registration on the SGAC website and 33 years of age or less at the moment of the application
- Familiarity with SGAC’s mission, objectives and structure
- Excellent organisational abilities
- Experience in managing multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary teams
- Business/professional fluency in English
- Ability to respond quickly and efficiently to emails is vital
- Strong attention to detail is essential
- Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team
- Previous experience in managing communications and/or social media for international groups is preferred, but not necessary
