'Forty Years of Space Age & Beyond 2009' Workshop & Exhibition

Asia-PacificThe Royal College Astronomical Society (RCAS) in Colombo, Sri Lanka organised an innovative programme titled '40 Years of Space Age & Beyond' (FYOSA 09) under the International Year of Astronomy (IYA) 2009 programmes. The programme held on 8th and 9th December 2009 consisted of a Workshop, Science Fiction Competition and an Exhibition of Apollo 11 moon rocks.
SEDSat-II ANNOUNCES RECRUITMENT

SEDSat-II is a global student satellite project involving several students from around the globe.The goal of the project is to build a picosatellite (cubesat)through international student involvement.
The project has already been known internationally. It's presented at the United Nations and the International Astronomical Congress (IAC).It has also been receiving inspiring comments from leaders in space sector across the world.
As most academic projects, SEDSat-II is usually in need for fresh student members who can be initiative, hard-working and highly motivated.
Recent event in Indonesia

This year, in order to decide when Ramadhan came, some teams from Badan Rukyat Indonesia conducted continued observation. Theoretically, based on Hisab’s data, on August 20, 2009, lunar should have disappeared. Meanwhile, on Friday, 21 August 2009, Hilal (new moon) potentially would appear because it passed minimum visibility curve that was documented in RHI’s files. However, the Madden Julian Oscillationo phenomena made not all the points were appropriate to observe Hilal. Only 4 places from 9 in RHI’s group that were able to see Hilal
Sri Lankan IYA2009 Star Party exceeds expectations

Asia-PacificCommenced in 2004, "Star Party" is an observational astronomy competition where student groups from different parts of Sri Lanka compete. Organised by the astronomical societies of Ananda College, Colombo and Mahamaya Girls' College, Kandy, it is held annually and has gained an excellent reputation over the years. Star Party 2009 was named as the main IYA2009 event in Sri Lanka. It was a huge success, attracting more than 50 groups.
Sri Lanka signs a historic agreement for its first communications satellite!

Second International Conference on Nanosatellites in Lima, Peru

This is the second time such initiative started by Peruvian engineers and professors will take place at the Center for Technological Information and Communications at the National University of Engineering (UNI).
This Center is in charge of the design of a national concept for the implementation of a Peruvian small satellite program. This challenging project will be carried out with the involvement of governmental and educational institutions from Peru as well as abroad.
