SGAC becomes a member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
First SGAC Global Event takes place: the Space Generation Congress (then called the Space Generation Summit) in Houston, Texas, USA. This event takes place alongside the International Astronautical Congress (IAC), however this year it was held alongside the World Space Congress which combines IAC with the COSPAR Scientific Assembly.
SGAC gains Permanent Observer status at the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) and its two subcommittees: the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee (STSC) and the Legal Subcommittee (LSC) at the United Nations.
SGAC creates its first newsletter entitled "Juventus Pro Sidere Youth for Space".
The Space Generation Advisory Council includes “in Support of the United Nations Programme on Space Applications” under the auspice of the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs.

The United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) Secretariat invites the International Space University (ISU) to organise a forum for young adults as part of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS). The ISU solicits alumni volunteers to plan, organise and conduct the Space Generation Forum, in parallel with other UNISPACE III activities.
