E-SGW Webinar Series: Artificial Intelligence for Space
June 20, 2020 @ 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM GMT
Artificial Intelligence (AI) meets Space! Join us on Saturday 20th June at 11 AM UTC, together with Juan Peña Ibáñez (CEO of Orbital EOS, space-tech entrepreneur), Rasit Abay (Founder of Futurifai, AI/ML Engineer, Astrodynamics expert) and Red Boumghar (AI expert on Spacecraft Operations & Robotics and core contributor to Libre Space Foundation). Machine learning, image recognition, forecasting, … this webinar will show how space applications, both at ground and space segment, can benefit from Artificial Intelligence solutions. A new world of possibilities to unlock ahead of us!
Meet the Speakers
Juan Peña Ibáñez
Juan Peña is a space-tech entrepreneur and CEO of Orbital EOS, a Spanish company developing solutions based on Satellite Data & Artificial Intelligence. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Oceanography and a master’s degree in Remote Sensing & Data Analytics. His working experience includes 12 years of airborne remote sensing as Tactical Coordination Officer for the Spanish Maritime Safety & Rescue Agency (SASEMAR). He is currently involved in R+D projects of cube-sat missions and high altitude pseudo-satellites with the scope of addressing environmental challenges in the maritime domain.
Rasit Abay
Rasit Abay, founder at Futurifai and AI/ML Algorithms Engineer for Space Applications at University of New South Wales, Canberra. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering (specialisation in AI) and a master’s degree in Space System (specialisation in Astrodynamics). He is currently pursuing PhD in Aerospace Engineering (specialisation in astrodynamics and ML) at UNSW Canberra. Among his recent experiences, he has worked on AI/ML algorithms for Flight Dynamics activities (UNSW) and deep image recognition solutions for greenhouse (Futurifai)
Red Boumghar
Dr. Redouane Boumghar, aka Red, worked on many different Artificial Intelligence projects in robotics and perception in the satellite imagery industry. He is a former research fellow in the team for AI in Space Operations at the European Space Agency. He currently leads ideation processes for the data intelligence portfolio for the European Central Bank. Red believes in open inter-planetary collaboration where space is claimed the libre way. That’s why, as core contributor to the Libre Space Foundation, he shares and maintains a fully open source machine learning project for future autonomous space operations.
