Diversity and Gender Equality (Our Giant Leap) Project Group (DGE PG) (@ourgiantleap on Instagram) is inviting you to join one of its teams. Please read the position descriptions and apply only to the position that interests you the most! Note that all positions are unpaid voluntary and require SGAC Membership (free registration on the SGAC website required, and aged 18-35 years old during the period of performance).

In particular, we are recruiting this year for:

  • The Communication and Outreach team: this team embodies all communication activities of the Project Group. The overarching objective is to inspire and unite the global SGAC community around such important topics as diversity and inclusion. Concretely, this long-term project provides support for all communication activities and needs of the Project Group. If you are creative and want to learn new skills while building a more inclusive space sector, this team is for you! This year, the role of Communication co-lead is also open: apply to create and deploy the entire communication and outreach strategy of our Project Group.

COMMUNICATION

The communication team of the Diversity and Gender Equality Project Group of SGAC is recruiting! From podcast content creator and Slack community animator, to co-lead of the entire communication team: pick what role fits you best and join us, to use your creativity for a better space sector.

DESCRIPTION

For the first time in a long time, the Communication and Outreach team of the DGE PG is looking for someone to co-hold the reins of the team. Would you like to take part in the deployment of the DGE PG’s communication strategy? Would you like to represent and maintain communication and outreach activities, for one of the most active SGAC Project Groups? Do you have ideas of new channels and new formats to explore? 

Then this is your chance! Apply to become the next Communication and Outreach co-lead of the Diversity and Gender Equality Project Group.

Responsibilities:

Working closely with the other co-lead of the Communication and Outreach team:

  • Deploy and maintain the Communication and Outreach strategy of the DGE PG
  • Strengthen and protect the Our Giant Leap Brand Identity, and help PG members make the best use of it (by preparing templates, proposing masterclasses to use our brand identity to create original visuals – for example)
  • Coordinate internally with Long-term project leads and Project Group co-leads to support them in their communication needs
  • Collaborate with other SGAC Project Groups and external partners, for communication campaigns and original projects (artwork competitions, Pride Month communication campaign, conferences focusing on specific topics, etc.)
  • Organize the creation and publication of our yearly Our Giant Leap Magazine
  • Be the main PG point of contact for the SGAC Communication and Outreach team (regular meetings are held with other PG Outreach representatives to discuss SGAC guidelines, communication strategies and share ideas)
  • Lead the Communication and Outreach team composed of: the podcast sub-team, several coordinators and animators (outreach, social media, Slack) and graphic designers

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Independent, fast-learner
  • Fast text-message/chat response time (preferably on whatsapp)
  • Keeping in touch with weekly news related to D&I topics, and international celebrations for D&I (International Women’s Rights Day, Women in STEM day, International day of education etc.)
  • Proven leadership skills 
  • Experience with social media
  • Preferred past experience in Communication and Outreach (professionally or as a volunteer)

DESCRIPTION

OGL is looking for a creative, motivated, and self-driven Slack Community Manager. This position offers challenging, rewarding and professional skill-building experience, and is a great opportunity to oversee the curation, development and growth of a large international network within SGAC. This position will be part of the Our Giant Leap Communication and Outreach team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Moderation (30%):
– Ensuring the respect of the code of conduct (violence, insult, etc.)
– Limiting the abusive use of notifications and spam
– Ensuring that the proper channels are used and questions are answered.

– Coordinating with the social media team to invite people to join our Slack community on social media

Animation (70%):

– Sharing news on Our Giant Leap activities, inviting people to comment and share

– Starting open conversations related to diversity and gender equality in space, inviting people to share their views and propose solutions
– Creating recurrent activities to encourage our #Giant community to interact (eg. bi-weekly quizzes, sharing inspiring quotes or inspiring portraits, etc.)

OGL is looking for a social media activities coordinator to schedule and coordinate communication on Our Giant Leap social media platform. This position offers challenging, rewarding and professional skill-building experience, and is a great opportunity to oversee the curation, development and growth of a large international network within SGAC. This position will be part of the Our Giant Leap Communication and Outreach team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working closely with the Communication Team lead, the Outreach activities coordinator and Long-Term Projects Leads to develop a calendar of upcoming social media posts
  • Preparing original social media campaigns for the Project Group
  • Supporting social media campaigns of Long-Term Projects, in coordination with their social media representatives, and coordinate with designers to prepare visual content
  • Work closely with the Slack Community Manager to synchronize social media activities with Slack activities/posts
  • Share social media posts with our members, and encourage them to share/engage.

This position offers challenging, rewarding and professional skill-building experience and is an excellent opportunity to oversee the curation, development and growth of a large international network within SGAC. This position will be part of the Our Giant Leap Communication and Outreach team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working closely with the Communication Team Lead, OGL advisors and external design partners to craft an outstanding brand experience and creative strategy for Our Giant Leap. 
  • Determine a weekly/monthly media content schedule.
  • Support Long-Term projects and members for their design needs.
  • Oversee and curate the design team on their creative creation.
  • On occasion, create design templates to be used by members and the Sub-teams.
  • Cross-checking Junior designer work and delivery.
  • Assisted and supported the design team in content creation and design activities.
  • Participate every year in the preparation and consolidation of the Our Giant Leap magazine

As well as oversee the content creation within the Project Group for internal and external communications. 

This position offers challenging, rewarding and professional skill-building experience and is an excellent opportunity to oversee the curation, development and growth of a large international network within SGAC. This position will be part of the Our Giant Leap Communication and Outreach team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working closely with the Communication Team Lead, OGL advisors and external design partners to craft an outstanding brand experience and creative strategy for Our Giant Leap.
  • Create artwork that is coherent with Our Giant Leap’s visual identity and message.
  • On occasion, create or assist in designing templates to be used by members and the Sub-teams.
  • Supported Our Giant Leap and its sub-team in preparing the visual content for digital and printed media such as social media posts, presentations, OGL Magazine, etc.

FIGURES

Filling In the Gaps in Spaceflight

A Long-Term Project of the SGAC Diversity and Gender Equality Project Group

The FIGURES initiative aims to help close the gender data gap in human spaceflight and exploration. Our goal is to connect analogue mission crews, space medicine institutes, and researchers to co-develop sex-disaggregated protocols, enhance diversity in astronaut research, and promote visibility for underrepresented groups in space.

We are currently expanding our team! All roles are voluntary, remote, and flexible (~6–8 hours/month), open to passionate space advocates from all backgrounds.

Mission: Filling In the Gaps in Spaceflight through inclusive, interdisciplinary research and collaboration.

Role Summary:

Support the Team Lead in overseeing and aligning ongoing research projects with the mission of FIGURES. This role involves co-managing timelines, coordinating research activities, and ensuring smooth collaboration between team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Team Lead in overseeing and tracking all active research initiatives.

  • Develop and maintain timelines for deliverables (e.g., literature reviews, surveys, meta-analyses).

  • Identify emerging research gaps aligned with the FIGURES mission and help assign tasks accordingly.

  • Act as a bridge between research contributors and technical support

  • Assist in reaching out for collaborations and partnerships

Preferred Background:

  • Strong interest in space sciences, life sciences, engineering, or gender policy.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

  • Previous experience in academic research, student project teams, or space-related volunteering is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research on diversity topics, including gender diversity, background, nationality, age, ethnicity and others.
  • Contact with experts from the field
  • Data collection on every governmental and private astronaut

When the European Space Agency launched the call for applications for their astronaut corps in 2022. It was also the first time an agency opened positions to parastronauts, which was a big step towards diversity. With the recent rise in private missions, new opportunities are exploited as well. The aim of this project is to follow up on this ambitious initiative and study the environment in which the recruitment is made to include a wider range of people, the different challenges they meet and how it could be implemented at a larger scale through more space agencies. Therefore, in our team we are working on designing different analog mission experiments for parastronauts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As Research Liaison, you will connect our internal research coordinators, analogue mission teams, and external advisors from space medicine institutes. You’ll help make sure that research protocols are aligned, data collection is consistent, and feedback flows smoothly between all teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the central link between research, field operations, and medical advisors

  • Ensure consistency and integration of experimental protocols

  • Help synchronize timelines, updates, and expectations across the teams

  • Support data quality assurance and preliminary analysis alignment

  • Compile and circulate summaries and progress reports across workstreams

Preferred Background:

  • Experience in scientific research coordination or liaison roles

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to translate between scientific, technical, and operational contexts
