PR & Communications Coordinators

We are looking for enthusiastic and creative SMLS members to be part of our PR and Communications team as graphics designers, content creators and liaisons. The PR team oversees all external communications for the SMLS project group and ensures that all communications are professional and of the highest quality. They manage our external communication channels, coordinate social media and create a monthly newsletter (via Mailchimp) with relevant content for SMLS PG members.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and update our external communication channels
  • Design visuals for SMLS PG announcements
  • Curate appropriate content and opportunities from the broader community and synthesize these into content for the newsletter for SMLS members
  • Create and distribute our monthly newsletter via Mailchimp through to our mailing list
  • Coordinate with our Membership & Events Coordinators to manage communications and announcements via Slack platform
  • Liaise with SGAC PR & Communications Team for communication over the primary SGAC channels

We are ideally looking for someone who has:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Creativity and graphic design skills

  • Passion for space and science communication
  • Understanding of how to facilitate communication and discussion with a diverse range of global stakeholders

Memberships and Events Coordinators

SMLS has developed an online platform that hosts a vibrant community of students, young professionals and experts in the field of space medicine and life sciences. We are looking for someone to lead this vibrant community to be THE global interdisciplinary platform in space medicine and life sciences.  The ideal candidate will maintain and encourage discussion on our Slack platform, foster collaboration between members and experts, and connect international stakeholders within the space sector. In this role, you will also be responsible for overseeing and coordinating SMLS PG events, ensuring their successful execution and a positive experience for the participants. You will work in collaboration with the SMLS executive team and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality online and hybrid events that align with SMLS PG missions and objectives.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the planning, coordination and execution of SMLS events
  • Manage and maintain the Slack platform
  • Generate and respond to discussions on all Slack channels on behalf of SMLS
  • Welcome new members
  • Help resolve issues on Slack for our members
  • Facilitate requests for help through Slack from our members and direct them to appropriate person or resource
  • Bring questions and ideas from the membership to the committee
  • Recruit key members of the space medicine and life sciences community to participate on our platform
  • Analyze our membership and propose strategies to grow the strength and diversity of our membership
  • Work with our PR & Communications Coordinators to make relevant announcements on our Slack platform
  • Meet with the SMLS executive team on a monthly basis to stay updated about the work and responsibilities

We are ideally looking for someone who has:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience organizing and managing online and in-person events is greatly appreciated
  • Understanding of how to facilitate communication and discussion online
  • Experience on the Slack platform is preferred
  • Experience in starting or maintaining virtual community groups is a plus
  • An active online and social media presence in the space community is a plus
  • A high sense of responsibility and willingness to work in a team environment
  • Enormous passion for space medicine and life sciences

Research Pipeline Coordinators

To create and cultivate a research incubator and pipeline for SMLS and support ideas through early stages of research and development.  The role ideally is not to function as a principal investigator on projects, but as a coordinator that facilitates and supports research teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Receive and evaluate research ideas proposed by our membership and other external parties
  • Connect relevant people, resources and opportunities for viable research ideas
  • Manage research teams working on various projects
  • Conduct regular check up on active research projects
  • Help research teams to define goals and timelines and to ensure that these are met

We are ideally looking for someone who has:

  • Master or Doctorate degree, ideally in medical or biomedical or biological research
  • Leadership and team management experience
  • Experience with research ethics, funding and outputs
  • Past or current experience with research grants is a plus

Research Grant Coordinators

To collect and develop funding opportunities for research projects supported by SMLS PG.  The role ideally functions as a research grant officer for SMLS, collecting and facilitating financial grants and non-financial opportunities from all over the world for members of SMLS. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop business opportunities with sponsors or stakeholders to fund space medicine and life sciences research projects
  • Develop in-kind opportunities with sponsors or stakeholders to support space medicine and life sciences research projects, such as through access to testing facilities, testing platforms, laboratories etc.
  • Research, collect and curate funding opportunities relevant to the field of space medicine and life sciences research
  • Maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders, partners and sponsors
  • Liaise with the SGAC Strategic Partnership Team for opportunities

We are ideally looking for someone who has:

  • Experience in business development or working with sponsors and partners
  • Past or current experience with research grants is preferred
