Malaysia
Malaysia is privileged to have its own national space agency, ANGKASA. One of the key achievements of the national space programme was sending the first Malaysian Angkasawan to space in 2007 – thereby heralding Malaysia’s entry into the space era. ANGKASA has been working on the Malaysia National Space Policy and the Malaysia Outer Space Act. Both will be circulated publicly for consultation or announcements in the near future.
A strong public awareness of space means that SGAC has never been short of supporters in Malaysia. SGAC activities have been well attended by Malaysians and Malaysians have played significant roles in organising and moderating SGAC’s premier event in Asia – the Asia Pacific Space Generation Workshop (AP-SGW) as well as the Space Generation Congress (SGC) itself.
Young Space Activities Overview in Malaysia
Malaysia is home to well-trained space scientists and engineers – who find employment mainly in universities throughout the country. A strong tertiary focus on space contributes to an enviable flow of well trained youth with expertise and interest in space. Commercial space in Malaysia is still at its nascent stage, with MEASAT, the operator of a world class satellite fleet, being the flagbearer. A Malaysian team – Independence X Aerospace – is part of the Synergy Moon international team which remains a frontrunner in the Google Lunar X Prize.
While there is no lack of space activities in Malaysia, Malaysian youth are encouraged to take advantage of the connectivity of the ASEAN region and engage with neighbouring emerging space nations. Malaysian youth have been actively involved in regional events such as the Asia Pacific Regional Space Agencies Forum (APRSAF) and the Asia Pacific Space Generation Workshop (AP-SGW). Internationally, Malaysians have also been known to frequently participate in the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) and the Space Generation Congress (SGC).

October 4-10 – Every year, the national space agency ANGKASA organises activities during World Space Week – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
