Results of Regional Coordinator Election in the Middle East Region
SGAC held elections in January 2023 to elect the next Regional Coordinator (RC) in the Middle East Region. We are happy to announce the re-election of Ahmed Baraka (Egypt) as the new Regional Coordinator for the Middle East.

The election received one application for one regional coordinator position.
4 votes were received in the election. The election concluded with the following result:
- Ahmed Baraka (Egypt) (4 votes – 100%)
Ahmed Baraka is therefore declared the winner of the election for Regional Coordinator of Middle East Region.

About Ahmed Baraka
Ahmed is the Head of the COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic, at Shoubrakhit Public Hospital, a Consultant of Space Life Science at the Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA), a clinical pharmacist and (part-time) hospital manager at Dr. Ahmed Abdul Aziz hospital, Alexandria, Egypt, and a former teaching associate in the space sciences department at the International Space University (ISU) in Granada, Spain. Ahmed is interested in genetics, neuroscience, space neuroscience, and space sciences, and he is committed to his childhood dream of making humanity a multi-planetary species.
Ahmed holds many prestigious international space awards to name a few: the 2022 AMSRO Diversity Scholarship Award, the 2022 AsMA International Aerospace Medicine Scholarship, the 2022 SGAC Global Grant Award, the 2021 IAF Emerging Space Leaders Award, the 2021 Space Medicine Association International Scholarship, the 2019 African Space Leaders Award, as well as, he has been classified as one of the top 10 under 30 in the space industry in Africa.
Besides these activities, Ahmed is an active member of many space professional organizations like the Aerospace Medical Association (AsMA), Aerospace Medicine Student and Resident Organization (AMSRO), the Space Medicine Association (SMA), the Planetary Society, the Mars Society, the Moon Village Association (MVA), Society for Neuroscience, the Egyptian Pharmacist Syndicate, and Alexandria Syndicate of Pharmacists.

As well as, I am very optimistic about the level of activities that we aim to hold over the next two years.”
