Results of Regional Coordinator Election in the South America Region
SGAC held elections in July/August 2024 to elect the next Regional Coordinator (RC) in the South American Region. We are happy to announce that Julia Alvarez Vallero (Argentina) has been elected as the Regional Coordinator for South America.

Election Report
The election received two applications for one regional coordinator position.
7 votes were received in the election. The election concluded with the following result:
- Felipe Suazo Gonzalez (Chile) (42.9%)
- Julia Alvarez Vallero (Argentina) (57.1%)
Julia Alvarez Vallero is therefore declared the winner of the election for Regional Coordinator in the South America Region.

About Julia Alvarez Vallero
Julia is an electronic engineer from Argentina, graduated from National University of
Córdoba. She worked for more than three years as power design engineer in INVAP –
an Argentinian company dedicated to the design and manufacture of complex
technological systems. She earned her master’s degree in Renewable Energies,
Climate Change and Sustainability in the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
She is passionate about space and works to encourage youth to follow the space path
through her project, MELIORA. With this project, she aims to generate more diffusion
about the opportunities in the sector within the South American region. As a member of
Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC), she is part of the Educational and
Professional Development (EPD) Platform, where she volunteers as the Project and
Course Manager of the Achieved Academy, a Space Systems Engineering Curriculum.
Additionally, as part of the Space Safety and Sustainability (SSS) project group, she
collaborates as one of the bloggers for the project group’s newspaper. In recent
months, she has been involved with the University of Sant’Anna, Pisa in a project of
electric propulsion. Currently, she is starting her PhD at the University of Texas at
Arlington in the United States.

“I am honoured to have been selected as the new regional coordinator for South America. I will work hard to promote the region and increase collaborations throughout South America. I am convinced that together with Erik, and all the National Points of Contact (NPoCs) we will strengthen our community and contribute our potential to the organisation worldwide.”
