SGAC – NewSpace Economy 2022 Scholarship
The New Space Economy (NSE) Expoforum, is the yearly date on the economic impacts of the space sector, on what drives the quick running evolution of the institutional and private involvement in the New Space.
NSE offers a quick view on the increasing potential of the space sector to the widest community of users and on new potential stakeholders and business opportunities at national and international level.
NSE networks big industrial players, small and medium innovative companies, investors, venturers, startups, research centers, academia, space agencies, institutions and international organizations.
NSE 2022 benefits from a multidisciplinary approach to provide space solutions for non-space users in building a sustainable society and inspire next generations.
This year, the NewSpace Economy (NSE) and SGAC are joining forces to offer up to 5 young professionals the opportunity to attend and be one of the main actors of the NewSpace Economy European Expoforum 2022 conference during 1-3 December in Fiera di Roma, Italy!
Award
The award consists of free conference entrance and the inclusion of the winners in the main event programme, as representatives of the future talents and to represent the current trends in the sector. This will be a great opportunity for the winners to network with big industrial players and all the rest of the outstanding NSE speakers and public.
Please note, the award will not cover the accommodation and trip expenses.
How to Apply
Please submit the following:
- 1 minute of Fame!
In order for us to evaluate your public speaking skills, create a 1-minute video, briefly presenting the idea of your startup and what makes it special.
- Essay
Please submit your Essay (maximum 1000 words) showing us your knowledge on any of these topics: The Changing Earth, Monitoring LEO, Managing Risks, Life in Space, Space Weather, Preserving Dark Skies, as an unlocked PDF file. Your name should be included on the first page.

Guidelines
Eligibility
The competition is open to all young professionals working for European or International startups. Competition organizers and judges are not eligible for this award.
Individuals or core team members applying for the scholarship shall be SGAC members between the ages of 18 to 35 inclusive (up to the day of their 36th birthday) on 28th October 2022. SGAC membership is free.
Submission
- The essay is due as an unlocked PDF document under 5 MB. It shall be submitted via the Scholarship Submission Form at the bottom of this page. You will need to be logged in as an SGAC member to submit your application.
- The video must be posted on http://www.youtube.com. You must be on screen and be speaking for the full 1 minute. We will only watch/listen for 1 minute, so be sure to check the length of your video!
- The language of all submissions shall be English.
- The submission shall include original content and research only.
In case of a lack of quality submissions, NSE and SGAC have the right to extend and/or cancel the competition.
Evaluation
Evaluators will include members of the SGAC scholarship team and representatives from the NSE Scientific Committee.
The evaluation will be made based on a point system taking following criteria and their weights into consideration:
- Story/Vision/Problem 40%
- Solution + Scientific Justification 30%
- Business model 20%
- Overall application/Speaking Skills/Entertaining 10%

Responsibilities of the Winners
The winner shall:
- Attend the NewSpace Economy Expoforum 2022 and professionally attend panels or/and any other activities will be asked to.
Copyright and Intellectual Property
By submitting an entry, applicants agree to permit SGAC and all affiliated organisers to mention their names, affiliations and headshot picture in connection with the competition.
Copyright of the submitted entry shall remain with the contestants. However, by submitting an entry, the contestants agree for SGAC and NSE to use the data for the purpose of evaluating the competition.
Liability
NSE and SGAC shall not be responsible in the event that the NewSpace Economy 2022 conference is cancelled.
NSE and SGAC shall not be responsible in the event that the award winner fails to attend NewSpace Economy 2022 or is unable to under extenuating circumstances; in which case the award offer shall become void.
NSE and SGAC shall not be responsible in the event that the award winner cannot obtain any necessary travel documents; if they are required but not obtained, the award offer shall become void.
