Description

Cis-lunar Economy – Challenges and Future

With plans to return humans permanently to the lunar surface, the successful implementation of a thriving lunar economy is within reach. Following increased accessibility, the Moon’s ecosystem is expected to include space agencies alongside private players and non-space industries. This presents a major chance for new and established players in the space field as well as for terrestrial industries to benefit through new technology innovation, new market creation, and high level of public spending.

Key element of the cis-lunar economy is the Lunar Orbital Platform Gateway, in which OHB is involved through the co-development of the ESPRIT module (European System Providing Refuelling, Infrastructure and Telecommunications).

To achieve a sustaining presence on and around the moon it doesn’t only need technological developments, but a commercially viable scenario.

Now we need you on board this exciting challenge! We want to hear your ideas about how terrestrial industry can benefit from the new accessibility of the moon and how the associated new markets, technology developments, scientific potentials and resources can be commercialized.

The paper should either:

– identify business fields most likely to benefit from a successful (Cis-)lunar economy and the applicability for a Large System Integrator

– or describe a scientific/ technological potential or solution, created with this new market.

Award

The author(s) of the winning essays will receive an award in order to attend the following events:
