The Future of Africa’s Space Industry: Capacity Building For Sustainable Development
The Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) is excited to announce that the 8th African Space Generation Workshop (AF-SGW) is holding at the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT), Obasanjo Space Center, from November 20-21, 2024, in Abuja, Nigeria.
This prestigious international event brings together over 150 delegates, including university students, young professionals, industry experts, and government representatives, all under one roof to discuss “The Future of Africa’s Space Industry: Capacity Building for Sustainable
Development.”
“The AF-SGW holds special significance as it returns to Nigeria, the location of its inaugural edition in 2017. We are proud to host this workshop once again in Nigeria, a country at the forefront of the continent’s space exploration and innovation efforts.” — Event Manager, Ruth Okoh.
The primary objective of the AF-SGW is to raise awareness of the benefits of space and to provide a platform for the exchange of knowledge and best practices among stakeholders and encourage sustainable development initiatives across the continent.
Participants are divided into specialized working groups (WGs), each focusing on critical sub-themes related to Africa’s space industry.
Outcomes with Global Impact
The outcomes of these discussions will be captured in detailed reports and recommendations, which will be presented at high-level conferences and included in the SGAC annual report submitted to the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN-COPUOS). This ensures that the voices of Africa’s youth are heard on the global stage, contributing to the broader international discourse on space activities.
