SGAC has been undergoing rapid growth in the number of regional and local events over the last three years.  Managing event finances is a challenging professional skill that includes budget management, negotiation, and finance operations with wide applications to all areas of personal and professional development.

SGAC received a number of very high quality applications and after a competitive process, welcomes Florence Duveiller, Jessica Lis, and Josh Schertz as our new Event Finance Managers.  They will form our new Finance Team lead by the SGAC Treasurer, Anthony Yuen.  SGAC welcomes Florence, Jessica, and Josh to this important role. 

Florence Duveiller

 

Florence is currently a project officer at the French Defense Innovation Agency. Her role is to define the strategy of use of nano-satellites by the French army. Starting in September 2019, she will join the CNES’s Operations Division. Florence will be part of the team in charge of mission analysis and operations of Earth observation satellites CSO (Optical Space component).

Florence is a graduate of the Ecole polytechnique (France) and the Georgia Institute of Technology (US) in aerospace engineering. At Ecole polytechnique, she took part in the development of a Cubesat. During her stay in the US, as a Graduate Research Associate at the Aerospace Systems Design Laboratory, she worked in collaboration with NASA on the generation and evaluation of lunar campaigns. Passionate about manned space exploration, she completed her Master with a master thesis on communication architectures between the Earth and Mars to support manned missions to the Red planet.

In parallel with her studies, she contributed to the development of the Student Space Center of the Ecole polytechnique between 2015 and 2017. She is also an ambassador of Mars City Design. Regarding SGAC, Florence was the Event Manager of the first edition of SG[France] in 2019.

Jessica Lis

 
Jessica is a London-based young professional who just completed her postgraduate degree in technology policy at UCL. She is currently an Analyst Intern at Bryce Space and Technology, where she works on a variety of projects in the space industry. Her dissertation is on data portability in the IoT ecosystem. Before this, Jessica completed her Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations at The George Washington University, where she completed a number of internships including at the Commercial Spaceflight Federation, the Embassy of Jordan, the Environmental Law Institute and Hillary Clinton’s campaign Super PAC. In her free time, she loves to read about space, travel and scuba dive.

Josh Schertz

 
Josh is a full stack software engineer, serial entrepreneur, and Space Resources Masters student at the Colorado School of Mines. He is passionate about building technology that empowers people to make a better world. Whether it is through technology or science communication, Josh is eager to continue advocating for a fair and sustainable space economy.
