SGAC in cooperation with OHB are pleased to announce Avid Roman-Gonzalez and Sathesh Raj V Periasamey as the winners of the 2018 SGAC – OHB SE Competition. This competition sought innovative ideas on technologies, missions, methods, policies and/or legal frameworks that will help humanity to fight against climate change using space technology.
Avid Roman-Gonzalez
Avid Roman-Gonzalez is a IEEE Senior Member, IEEE – AESS Distinguished Lecturer, and Regional Coordinator of South America for SGAC. Avid is an Electronic Engineer from the Universidad Nacional San Antonio Abad del Cusco as well as a Systems Engineer from the Universidad Andina del Cusco. He Received his Master’s Degree in Industrial and Human Automatic, from the Université Paul Verlaine de Metz – France, and his Ph.D. Degree in Image and Signal Processing from TELECOM ParisTech supported by the French Space Agency (CNES) and German Aerospace Center (DLR). He was a Postdoctoral fellow at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia.
His work experience includes research at CNES and DLR, university teaching (UNI, UNSAAC, UAC, UNI, UPCH, and UCH), performance as Engineer in CONIDA, SPECTRUM, EGEMSA, etc. Currently, he is the Coordinator of the Image Processing Research Laboratory (INTI-Lab) at Universidad de Ciencias y Humanidades (UCH). He participates as keynote speaker and jury of projects in various academic events. He has many international published papers.
His areas of interest are Signal and image processing, biometrics, artificial intelligence, human automation, bioengineering, industrial automatic, control, and aerospace technology.
Avid provided the following response upon accepting this award:
“Winning this scholarship is important for me since it gives me the possibility to participate in two important events such as SGC 2018 and IAC 2018 where I can be in contact with different professionals involved in the aerospace technology field. Likewise, it gives me the opportunity to share my work with colleagues from different parts of the world. Thank you very much OHB!”
Sathesh Raj V Periasamey
Trained as a journalist, Sathesh Raj is proficient in the areas of communications, media affairs & strategy. He is currently part of the SGC2018 Media Team and AP-SGW 2018 Communications Team.
He has also been part of the World Space Week Association’s Global Volunteer Team as a media support personnel for over two years now. Sathesh gained his media trainings, among others, through his participation in a joint workshop by British Council Malaysia and Pioneers Post UK in 2014. He continued to develop his video journalism skills by being part of the British High Commission Kuala Lumpur’s MediaLab programme between 2016 and 2017. Through a video production part of the programme, he secured a spot as a delegate in Future News Worldwide 2017, an international conference held at the Scottish Parliament.
Occasionally, he can be seen contributing digital content for Astro AWANI, Malaysia’s 24-hour news network, while completing his undergraduate studies in Biology and Physics.
Sathesh Raj provided the following response upon accepting this award:
“This scholarship enables me to prove that I can proactively contribute in matters involving environment, science and technology. It also reaffirms that dreams do come true and that I’m on the right track and should keep on striving for the best.”
