CNES-SGAC Grants for SpaceOps 2018

Status: Open

Award: The 10 selected students will receive grants up to €500 each to cover their traveling and accommodation costs as well as the entrance fee to the SpaceOps conference. In the case that not enough applicants would be selected for the €500 grants, smaller grants of €125 or €250 maximum would be offered to students to attend the Students and Young Professionals (SYP) event only.

Description: SGAC has partnered with the French Space Agency, CNES to allow up to 10 University students to attend the 15th conference on space operations, SpaceOps 2018, hosted in Marseille, France from May 28th to June 1st 2018. If less than 10 students were to be selected, smaller grants would be offered to attend only the Students and Young Professionals (SYP) workshop organized in cooperation with SGAC on May 27th .

Rules: Competition is open to all SGAC members 18-35 years of age, as at the time of the conference, with French citizenship or currently studying in France.

Space Science Week Competition

Status: Open

Award: Five applicants will be selected. The five winners will each receive a support from the SSB for admission, travel, and accommodation to attend Space Science Week in Washington, D.C. from March 27-29, 2018 and attend the specified sub-committee’s programming for the duration of the event.

Description: The purpose of this competition is to select participants to take part in the discussions of specific committees which meet in parallel and plenary sessions at the annual Space Science Week. These awards are being offered to SGAC to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the SSB in 1958.

Rules: Competition is open to all SGAC members 35 years of age or younger who are based in the United States

Worldwide Space Policy Essay Competition

Status: Open

Award: The most innovative, inspiring or well-written papers will be accumulated and published. Moreover, the selected papers will be used as working material to support the discussion of The Space Generation Congress (SGC), the annual meeting of the Space Generation Advisory Council, which will be held in Bremen, Germany on 26 - 29 September, 2018 prior to the 69th International Astronautical Congress (IAC). By submitting a paper participants consent to publication of their paper or part of it.

Description: On the occasion of the UNISPACE+50 Conference, the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI), the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) invite students and young professionals worldwide to submit a paper on the “Post - 2030 Agenda and the role of space”.

Rules: Competition is open to all students and young professionals from any country. All individuals or team members must be SGAC members 35 years of age or younger by 25 September 2018. They are asked to submit a contribution with their ideas.

Space Tech Expo Europe Competition

Status: Closed

Award: The three winners will have an opportunity to take part in a panel at the Space Tech Expo Europe Technology Forum on Thursday 26 October 2017.

Description: SGAC is partnering with Space Tech Expo Europe, to be held in Bremen 24-26 October 2017, to organise a panel for three students or young professionals to share concepts and technologies they are working on in support of future space exploration endeavours with members of the space community.

Rules: Competition is open to all students and young professionals from any country. All individuals or team members must be SGAC members 35 years of age or younger by 24 October 2017. They are asked to submit a video highlighting z project or technology they are working on.

Global Space Law Essay Competition

Status: Closed

Award: The most innovative, interesting or well-written papers will be accumulated and published. Moreover, the selected papers will be used as working material to support the discussion of the 16th Space Generation Congress Working Group titled, "Outer Space Treaty: The Next Fifty Years". (The Space Generation Congress (SGC) is the annual meeting of the Space Generation Advisory Council, and will be held in Adelaide, Australia on 21 - 23 September, 2017 prior to the 68th International Astronautical Congress (IAC).)

Description: On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Outer Space Treaty the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI), the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) invite students and young professionals globally to submit a paper which offers a fresh view on the Outer Space Treaty.

Rules: Competition is open to all students and young professionals from any country. All individuals or team members must be SGAC members 35 years of age or younger by 25 September 2017. They are asked to submit a contribution with their ideas.

OHB SE Competition

Status: Closed

Award: Up to 2000 USD in order to attend the 16th Space Generation Congress and the 68th International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide, Australia.

Description: This competition calls for ideas in how companies that are likely to spring up over the next few decades, will be able to design, develop, build, and launch spacecraft to reach asteroids for work. What do you envision the space economy to be like, and how do you think space mining and space resources will play a role in this? Ideas include technological advancements, life support advancements, what sort of materials would be in high/low demand, would there be a new currency developed for this space economy, and so forth.

Rules: Competition is open for all students and young professionals from any country. All individuals or team members must be SGAC members 35 years of age or younger by 25 September 2017. They are asked to submit a technical paper with their ideas.

Space Generation Congress 2018 Logo Competition

Description: Preparations have already begun for the 17th Space Generation Congress to be held in Bremen, Germany, in September 2018! SGAC is pleased to announce the SGC 2018 Logo Competition, to select the event logo which will be used on all promotional material for SGC 2018.

Australian Space Generation Innovators Award

Status: Closed

Award: Up to 1000 AUD for the winner and up to 500 AUD for two runner-ups in order to attend the 16th Space Generation Congress and the 68th International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide, Australia.

Description: SGAC is pleased to announce the newly established Australian Space Generation Innovators Award which will provide support for three young, enthusiastic Australian space innovators to attend both the 16th Space Generation Congress and the 68th International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide, Australia.

Young ESA - SGAC Diversity Scholarship

Status: Closed

Award: Up to 2500 EUR in order to attend the 16th Space Generation Congress and the 68th International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide, Australia.

Description: This video/essay scholarship is a great opportunity for European students and young professionals to share their views on diversity and ESA.

Rules: Scholarship is open for all students and young professionals with a nationality of an ESA Member State or ESA Associate Member State (currently: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom; Canada and Slovenia). Space Generation Leadership Award

Status: Closed

Award: The award will cover round trip travel to Adelaide, lodging, visa costs, and the registration fees for the 16th Space Generation Congress and the 68th International Astronautical Congress up to a maximum amount communicated to each awardee.

Description: One of the goals of the Space Generation Congress is to provide an opportunity for interaction between members of the space sector with diverse geographic and technical backgrounds. To enable those members of the SGAC community without sources of funding to attend the event, and recognise our active members, SGAC has been running the Space Generation Leadership Award.

Rules: Scholarship is open for all students and young professionals from any country. Participants must be SGAC members, 35  or younger by 25 September 2017. They are asked to submit their CV with a date of birth and a headshot photo, and a one-page letter of intent.

ILEWG Scholarship

Award: 200 EUR for 2 winners in order to attend the 16th Space Generation Congress and the 68th International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide, Australia, and recognition during the Moon-Mars GNF panel.

Description: The scholarship follows past prestigious ILEWG Lunar Exploration Prizes that have, among others, been given to teams at ESA, JAXA, NASA, and ISRO, and is focused on visions for future lunar exploration.

SGAC-IAASS Space Safety Competition

Award: Up to 1350 EUR for 3 winners in order to attend the 9th IAASS conference "Know Safety, No Pain"

Description: As in recent years, the IAASS and SGAC join efforts to offer to the SGAC members the opportunity to participate in the 2017 Space Safety Competition. The winners will be granted a scholarship to participate in the 9th IAASS conference "Know Safety, No Pain" to be held from 18 – 20th October, 2017 in Toulouse, France.

Rules: Competition is open for students and young professionals between 18 and 35 years old. Applicants are asked to submit their papers on space safety topics.

ASI-SGAC Grants to attend the 68th IAC

Status: Closed

Award: Up to 7 university students will be awarded a maximum gross amount of 5000 to attend the congresses SGC and IAC

Description: This grant is part of the Higher Education programmes undertaken by ASI, in the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between ASI and SGAC, regarding the promotion of conjuncted activities for students and young professionals in the space sector and concerning research topics of interest to the Agency.

Rules:Competition is open for students and young professionals between 18 and 35 years old. They must be enrolled in a Master's course (corso di laurea magistrale o specialistica), 2nd level Master's course or a Doctorate course in an Italian university.

SGAC-Space Tech Expo USA 2017 Competition

Award: 2 winners will each receive a 3 day pass to the Space Tech Expo USA conference

Description: In its sixth year, Space Tech Expo USA (23 - 25 May 2017) continues to grow in its new venue in Pasadena! SGAC is partnering with Space Tech Expo USA to give 2 conference passes to two young professionals through a merit based video competition.

Rules: Scholarship is open only for young professionals (recent graduates or professionals under the age of 35). Applicants are asked to create a 2 minutes video to explain a project that they are working on, and briefly explain why they want to attend the Space Tech Expo.

SGAC-GSA – New Navigation Horizons Scholarship

Status: Closed

Award: Coverage of travel and accommodation costs and registration fees to attend the 6th Space Generation Fusion Forum and 33rd Space Symposium up to 2000 Euros.

Description: The European GNSS Agency (GSA) in cooperation with the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) has organised the Young GSA – New Navigation Horizons Scholarship. This video competition is a great opportunity for European students and young professionals to share their views on the possibilities that Galileo in a multi-GNSS world can bring to society, business and European integration.

Rules: The scholarship is open for students and young professionals between 18 and 35 years old. They are asked to submit a 30 second video and a 400 word essay.

ISS CREW FUND SCHOLARSHIP

Status: Closed

Award: Coverage of travel and accommodation costs and registration fees to attend the 2nd E-SGW in Paris up to 500 Euros.

Description: During the last Ministerial Council in Lucerne beginning of December 2016, ESA Member States have decided upon the continuation of the ISS programme until 2024. Please describe your vision of human space flight and related exploration possibilities after ISS in one page.

Rules: The scholarship is open for students and young professionals between 18 and 35 years old. They are asked to submit a one page essay upon the topic described here above. Four winners will be selected by the SGAC Executive Office and Members of the ISS Crew Fund Board.

ILEWG Scholarship - Young Lunar Explorer

Status: Closed

Award: 250 EUR to contribute to expenses towards the SGC 2016 and IAC 2016 and recognition during the Moon-Mars GNF panel planned on Wednesday 28th September

Description: The scholarship will follow past prestigious ILEWG Lunar Exploration Prizes that have, among others, been given to teams at ESA, JAXA, NASA, and ISRO. This Young Lunar Explorers Awards is a grant recognizing a student or young professional. You can participate by submitting an essay related to robotic or human lunar exploration.

Rules: The scholarship is open for students and young professionals between 18 and 35 years old. They are asked to submit an essay.

Award: The scholarship covers the SGC 2016 Registration Fee

SSPI Scholarship - Satellite Futures

Status: Closed

Award: (1) first-place prize of 2000 USD to attend the SGC and IAC, and two (2) runner-up prizes of 800 USD

Description: The SSPI Satellite Futures scholarship will help send students to the 15th Annual Space Generation Congress (22 – 24 September 2016) and the 67th International Astronautical Congress (26 – 30 September 2016) in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Rules: Award is open for all students between 18 and 35 years old. They are asked to submit a max 1,000 word essay on one of the selected topics as they pertain to the satellite industry: orbit designation, space debris mitigation, spectrum allocation, and maneuverability

SGAC-AEM Mexican Scholarships

Status: Closed

Award: The scholarship covers the SGC 2016 Registration Fee

Description: The Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) in collaboration with the Mexican Space Agency (AEM) will issue grants (up to 20) to students and young professionals to attend the  SGC 2016. The grant will cover only the registration to the Space Generation Congress.

Rules: The grant is open for students and young professionals between 18 and 35 years old. Once you apply to participate in the SGC 2016, you will automatically be considered to participate for the grant. No need to apply for this specific scholarship.

ispace Competition

Status: Closed

Award: Up to 500 USD in order to attend SGC and IAC

Description: ispace technologies, in cooperation with the SGAC, challenges young minds to think about the future of lunar exploration by developing faster and cheaper architectures for lunar resources utilization.

Rules: Competition is open for students and young professionals between 18 and 35 years old. They are asked to submit a paper describing their innovative ideas.

Description: Since 2007, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) has supported German students to attend the Space Generation Congress (SGC) and the International Astronautical Congress (IAC). Through the partnership between SGAC and the DLR, this scholarship programme is once available again for the 15th Annual Space Generation Congress (22 – 24 September 2016) and the 67th International Astronautical Congress (26 – 30 September 2016) in Guadalajara, Mexico.
