After seeing the event growing after 4 editions, and the positive impact that it has on both the organising team and participants, SGAC Italy is beginning the preparations for the Italian Space Startup Competition (ISSC) 2024, to be held in Rome, at the Agenzia Spaziale Italiana. Date: to be decided between end of February and beginning of March 2024.
In preparation, SGAC is seeking qualified volunteers interested in joining the ISSC 2024 Organising Team.
The ISSC is a start-up competition focused on space related ideas. ISSC aims at promoting the interest of the young generation in space business and bringing forth the next generation of entrepreneurs. ISSC encourages knowledge sharing and fosters innovation, also aiming at providing participants with the necessary backdrop to network, learn and shape the future. The event is dedicated – but not limited – to new-graduates, students and young professionals who are interested in working in the space sector and are willing to take on a challenge in a business context.
The event will follow an in-person format. We are looking for Organising Team members that will be able to attend the event for its entire duration. The Italian Space Startup Competition will be held in English, but knowledge of the Italian language is preferred.
We are looking for:
Event Manager (1x)
The ISSC 2024 Manager will work on the overall management of the 5th Edition of the Italian Space Startup Competition. This role includes overseeing the development of the event, coordinating the organising team, and ensuring another successful edition of ISSC.
The ideal candidate is a SGAC member who lives in Italy and preferably in Naples, has previous experience with organisation of SGAC events, with event organisation and/or with startups.
Previous experience with organisation of SGAC events is considered an asset for the role.
Estimated time commitment: 4-6 hours a week on average.
Deputy Event Manager (2x)
The ISSC 2024 Deputy Manager will work alongside the ISSC 2024 Manager in the preparation of the logistics and overall management of the Italian Space Startup Competition 2024.
This role includes overseeing the development of the event, helping to coordinate the organising team, and ensuring another successful edition of ISSC.
Upon successful performance in this role, as assessed by the SGAC Italian NPoCs, the ISSC 2024 Deputy Manager may be promoted to become the ISSC 2025 Manager at the conclusion of the 2024 event.
Estimated time commitment: 3-5 hours a week on average.
Logistics and Local Organising Team (3x)
This team will manage the logistics aspects of the competition and address coordination with local partners and entities to ensure a successful ISSC 2024.
This role includes:
- Support in elaboration of estimated budgets for different organisational phases of the event;
- Support with audio/video logistics during the event;
- Support with delegate material procurement before the event and general logistics during the event;
- Support in organisation of social events;
- Support with potential accommodation options;
Physical location in Rome is considered an asset for the role.
Estimated time commitment: 2-3 hours a week on average.
Programme Team (2x)
This team will be responsible for developing the programme of ISSC 2024 and for proposing cutting-edge competition topics, in coordination with the Sponsors and Partners of the Competition.
The role includes development of the ISSC 2024 programme, selection of Speakers and Mentors for the Competition and coordination with ISSC 2024 Sponsors, Partners and Speakers.
Estimated time commitment: 2-3 hours a week on average.
Delegates Team (2x)
This team will support delegate-related processes throughout all the phases of the ISSC 2024, including: application, delegate registration, delegate coordination and delegate feedback.
The role includes being point of contact for delegates for issues/questions and ensuring a fast response rate.
Estimated time commitment: 2-3 hours a week on average.
Media and Communications Team (2x)
This team will support public relations and advertising activities about the ISSC 2024, working closely with the SGAC Public Relations and Communication Team and the ISSC 2024 Event Manager.
This role includes writing press releases, coordinating media relations and advertising before, during and after the workshop, coordinating social media communication and coordinating with the Organising Team and other organisations on promotion.
Experience in photography is considered a plus for this role.
Estimated time commitment: 2-3 hours a week on average.
ISSC Artist in Residence (1x)
The Artist in Residence will work with members of the SGAC PR & Comms team and ISSC 2024 Media and Communications to develop graphic elements to use in ISSC activities, including the ISSC 2024 Logo.
This position requires excellent English skills, good computer skills, and quick email response time.
Experience in photography or visual arts is considered a plus.
A sample of work portfolio is also requested when applying for this role.
Estimated time commitment: 2-3 hours a week on average.
Necessary Qualifications
- SGAC membership: registration on the SGAC website and below 35 years of age.
- Interest in the space sector.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, quick turnaround environment and meet deadlines without compromising the quality of work.
- Good English skills with a keen eye for details.
- Good teamwork skills and a high degree of self-organisation.
- Cross cultural and communication awareness: ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with people from various international and cultural backgrounds.
