Washington D.C. is calling! Join the 11th annual SGx Organizing Team!
SGAC is looking for talented and passionate volunteers to support the organization of SGx2026, a 2-day event held in May 2026 in Washington D.C., United States. All organizing team members will report to the SGx2026 Manager and Deputy Manager , Rachita Puri and Anna Ring.
SGx will happen in conjunction with ASCEND (Hosted by AIAA) 2026 and in partnership with Future Space Leaders Foundation (FSLF). SGx brings together a community of space enthusiasts, students, young professionals to engage with seasoned industry executives and government leaders on a wide range of most relevant topics in the space industry today.
Applications are open to all SGAC members (membership is free and can be accessed through the SGAC website). SGx2026 team members will each receive:
- One (1) complimentary registration to SGx2026
- One (1) complimentary registration to ASCEND 2026
Role Descriptions
Communications Team (2 positions)
The communications team is a dynamic, innovative, enthusiastic team with creative members. You are eager to communicate the benefits and advantages of being involved with SGx to our target attendee audiences and partners, while ensuring your campaigns are consistent with the overall SGAC communications strategy. You also may have a passion for graphic design to add a creative flair!
Responsibilities:
- Research, develop, and execute a communications strategy for attracting attendees from new sources (universities, companies, local community) to SGx
- Create and execute a social media and marketing plan to increase visibility of SGx in collaboration with the SGAC PR & Comms team – before, during, and after SGx
- Create and maintain the SGx2026 website while working with the rest of the SGx organizing team
- Write and edit press releases for social media platforms and the SGAC website, including live tweets and posts during SGx
- Coordinate with the SGx organizing team to update the Agenda for 2026. Support developing brochures, potential sponsor packages, and other materials for SGx, as well as media recaps following the event
- Collaborate with the SGAC Public Relations and Communications Team to ensure that branding for publications is aligned with SGAC standards
- Attend virtual meetings and submit updates
- Work with the rest of the SGx Organizing Team as required
Qualifications
- SGAC membership: registration on the SGAC website and below 35 years of age on May 2026
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Professionally fluent in English
- Can work independently and meet objectives in a timely manner
- Can coordinate and work with a globally dispersed and interdisciplinary team
- Fast email and messaging response turnaround time
- Familiarity with productivity tools is an asset (example: Discord, Google Workspace)
- Familiarity with web content management tools, such as WordPress, is an asset
- Experience with graphic design software (Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop etc.) is an asset
- Experience in social media marketing is an asset
- Experience with video and photo editing is an asset

Programs Team (2 positions)
Members of the Programs Team are detail-oriented, well connected and knowledgeable about the space sector, and excited about creating a dynamic and diverse program for our delegates and guests. Creating an environment which offers the best opportunity for attendee’s professional development, learning, and networking at SGx is your priority while adhering to the conference’s theme.
Responsibilities:
- SGx Manager and Deputy Manager will have a vision for overall programming expectations; Programs Team members will work together and develop a strategy to execute this vision for programming content, speakers, and overall experience
- Programs Team Members will utilize knowledge of current events and space industry to propose meaningful, exciting content for SGx
- Identify potential speakers from across the space industry working with SGx2026 sponsors
- Coordinate invitations to potential speakers, and act as a point of contact
- Develop and prepare the SGx programming schedule, utilizing previous lessons learned to balance content and attendee networking experiences for the full 2 days of programming
- Assist the Communications Team in SGx website updates by compiling the Agenda with relevant information about SGx, the SGx schedule, and biographies for speakers/moderators/panelists

Qualifications

- Strong interpersonal, communication, and executive presence skills
- Professionally fluent in English

- Can coordinate and work with a globally dispersed and interdisciplinary team

- Familiarity with productivity tools is an asset
- Experience in event programming is an asset
- Current employment in the space sector strongly preferred

Events Coordination Team (2-3 positions)
Members of the Events Coordination team are driven individuals with strong organizational, management, and professional collaboration skills. This team will work closely with sponsor organizations and the ASCEND team to coordinate the Business Pitch Competition and Art Scholarship for SGx.
The Business Pitch Competition is a “shark tank” style competition during SGx where conference attendees brainstorm a business pitch around a specific topic. They then provide an elevator pitch to a panel of judges who will select the winning team. Organization of this requires coming up with the pitch, selecting judges, and coordinating the event.
The Art Scholarship enables artists in the space community to showcase art inspired by the SGx conference theme. The winning submission will get a scholarship to attend SGx in person and the top 10 submissions will get their art showcased at SGx and on the SGAC website. Team members will organize a survey, help grade art pieces, and coordinate with the sponsor.
Responsibilities:
- Support the development of interactive workshop activities throughout the event
- Manage logistical details (e.g. timing, set-up, and vendors) for the 2-day SGx event, including career fair and workshops, in partnership with the SGx leadership team
- Support the development of needed budgets and event roadmap for food, A/V, etc.
- Work with the ASCEND conference team to secure appropriate rooms and resources for the SGx event and evening events
- Collaborate with the SGx, FSL, and ASCEND conference leadership teams to ensure that all logistical details are accounted for
- Attend virtual meetings and submit updates
- Work with the rest of the SGx Organizing Team as required

Career Development Team (2 positions)
Members of the Career Development team are driven individuals with strong organizational, management, and professional collaboration skills. This team will work closely with sponsor organizations and the ASCEND team to coordinate the Speed Networking and Lightning Talks.
Speed Networking is an opportunity for sponsors to interact directly with SGx attendees. Sponsors will rotate tables discussing career advice, opportunities at their companies, and other professional guidance. Organization of this includes coordinating the event with sponsors, laying out the flow of the event, and executing the event during the conference.
Lightning Talks are opportunities for Young Professionals and Students to submit talk ideas to be on the main stage at SGx. This task will require the team to put out an application for lightning talks, select specific talks, work with the sponsor on lightning talk scholarships, and coordinating the lightning talk at SGx.
Responsibilities:
- Support the selection of the Lightning Talks

Note: All roles are voluntary and unpaid. SGAC is not able to provide any additional financial assistance for travel, accommodation, and other expenses incurred. If the volunteer is unable to attend, none of the above mentioned benefits are transferable or redeemable for their retail value.
