The Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) is looking for 4 dedicated volunteers to join the ACHIEVED Competition as Coordination Team Members under the Education & Professional Development (EPD) Platform. 

The ACHIEVED Competition is an international space mission design competition inviting students and young professionals to tackle pressing challenges in the space sector. Over a six-month period, participants work in teams, receiving guidance from experts through review sessions and support opportunities, enabling them to refine their solutions and grow their understanding of mission design.

As a Coordination Team Member, you will play a pivotal role in organizing, promoting, and executing the competition’s activities, ensuring that the experience aligns with the competition’s mission to foster innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professional growth. 

This role is ideal for individuals with a background in event coordination, project management, or space education who are motivated to prepare the next generation of space professionals.

Remark: As one of SGAC’s five fundamental pillars, the EPD Platform has several subteams, each overseen by two team leaders coordinating with the EPD Coordinators. Therefore, the selected candidates will work with and report to the ACHIEVED Competition Team Leaders.

About SGAC’s Education & Professional Development (EPD) Platform:

The EPD Platform is the central coordination arm that organizes, provides, and supports education and professional development activities across SGAC. It aims to serve as a gateway for those interested in starting a career in the space industry, providing various opportunities to gain technical knowledge, receive mentorship, and gain hands-on experience on technical projects. With an unwavering commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, it is an open platform available to the global SGAC Community, providing a wide range of resources and opportunities designed to meet the needs of individuals at different stages of their careers and across all of our regions.

Goals & Objectives

  • Collaborate with the other SGAC Pillars and industry partners to offer high-quality education, S.T.E.A.M. outreach, and professional development opportunities.
  • Build awareness of educational and professional development activities within and outside of SGAC and improve accessibility to space education.
  • Support efforts to translate projects (e.g., hackathons, papers) and launch new EPD initiatives.

Responsibilities

This role is essential to the successful planning and execution of the ACHIEVED Competition’s program. It involves working closely with competition team leaders to coordinate sessions, engage participants, and ensure that each stage meets the competition’s high standards for learning, creativity, and professional growth.

In summary, the duties that come along with this position include but are not limited to:

  • Competition Planning and Coordination
    • Collaborate with competition leaders to design and schedule project milestones, review sessions, and expert support meetings.
    • Manage logistics for virtual sessions, ensuring seamless execution and a positive experience for participants and guest experts.
  • Participant Engagement
    • Facilitate interactions between participants and experts to promote knowledge-sharing and constructive feedback.
    • Actively support participants through regular engagement, ensuring access to program resources and guidance throughout the competition.
  • Networking and Community Building
    • Foster a collaborative environment within the competition, encouraging participants to build connections and work effectively in teams.
    • Identify and promote networking opportunities, such as expert panels or online forums, to strengthen community relationships.
  • Content Development and Delivery
    • Support the development of educational content, including resources, presentations, and feedback guidelines to guide participants.
    • Identify relevant skills and knowledge areas that enhance participants’ learning experience and align with the competition’s objectives.
  • Promotion and Outreach
    • Coordinate with the EPD PR & Comms team to promote the competition’s events across the EPD’s communication platforms.
    • Assist in recruiting competition participants and engaging with prospective applicants to broaden competition reach.
  • Feedback and Program Improvement
    • Collect and analyze feedback from participants to continuously improve the competition experience.
    • Work closely with team leaders to identify and implement enhancements based on participant needs and industry trends.
  • Reporting and Collaboration
    • Support Team Leaders in regularly updating the EPD Coordinators on the competition status, participant engagement, and upcoming activities.
    • Collaborate with other SGAC teams to integrate competition initiatives within the larger SGAC mission.

Estimated time commitment: 4-6 Hours per week.

Period of Performance: January 6th – December 12th, 2025 (possibility to renew for the following year)

The position will have a probationary period of 3 months.

Necessary Qualifications

To be considered for this position, applicants shall possess the following qualifications:

  • Be a registered SGAC member (Individuals can register for free on the SGAC Website).
  • Be a citizen of a United Nations Member State.
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old during the appointment.
  • Serious interest in space-related activities, education, and professional development.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, quick-turnaround international environment and meet deadlines without compromising work quality.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to resolve programmatic or logistical challenges independently.
  • Professional fluency (speaking, reading, and writing) in English.
  • Professional fluency in additional languages is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a virtual team.
  • Prior experience in event coordination, project management, or space education is a plus.
  • Familiarity with virtual collaboration tools (e.g., Slack, Google Workspace, Zoom).
