SGAC 25th Anniversary
Celebrating a Quarter Century of Achievements
Founded at UNISPACE III in 1999, SGAC was created as part of The Space Millennium: Vienna Declaration on Space and Human Development. The goal: to foster the participation of young people worldwide, especially from developing countries and young women, in cooperative space activities.

SGAC was born at UNISPACE III

SGAC gains Permanent Observer status at the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) and its two subcommittees: the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee (STSC) and the Legal Subcommittee (LSC) at the United Nations.

The first SGAC Global Event: the Space Generation Congress (then the Space Generation Summit) in Houston, Texas, USA.
SGAC opens its headquarters at the European Space Policy Institute in Vienna, Austria.
SGAC hired its first-ever Executive Directors:
– Chris Boshuizen who went on to co-found Planet – an earth observation company that designs, builds and operates the most satellites
– Agnieszka Łukaszczyk, Senior Director for European Policy at Planet
SGAC creates its first website!
SGAC creates scholarships for its members to attend the Space Generation Congress and the International Astronautical Congress.

SGAC brand got a makeover! Our current logo embodies:
– UN-inspired laurels for peace & unity
– Three people in space from our old logo
– three stars representing space itself
– colors symbolising the diversity, passion and vigor of our members.
First Fusion Forum event. SGAC hosts its first Space Generation Fusion Forum in connection with the Space Foundation and their Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA.
SGAC hosts its first-ever Space Generation Workshop (SGW regional event series) which is the 1st Asia-Pacific Space Generation Workshop (AP-SGW) in Yokohama, Japan.
SGAC national points of contact had been holding many events throughout the years with SGAC partners such as SpaceUp and World Space Week. However, in 2015 SGAC introduced its first in-house local and thematic series of events with an event in Israel.

1. SGAC membership surpassed 15,000 members and alumni in 150+ countries!
2. Awarded the International Astronautical Federations Excellence in 3G diversity award at the 69th International Astronautical Congress in Bremen Germany. http://www.iafastro.org/iaf-excellence-in-3g-diversity-award-2018-recipient/
3. SGAC officially launches the SGAC Alumni Programme and SGAC Alumni Fund as well as the SGAC Mentoring Programme which was created at SGF 2.0.
SGAC was selected to receive $1 million from Blue Origin’s Club for the Future!
