SGAC is looking for one volunteers to lead the Jobs Board for the SGAC Education & Professional Development (EPD) Team. The lead will work with and report to the EPD Team Coordinators Faith Tng and Marcos Rojas.

About the Space Education & Professional Development (EPD) Platform:

Education and Professional Development Platform is the central coordination arm that organizes, provides, and supports education and professional development activities across SGAC. Newly launched in 2023, the EPD platforms represent one of the five core pillars of SGAC at the Executive Committee level.

Responsibilities

The Career Development Co-Lead (x1) is a volunteer who will work with their Co-Manager to lead the SGAC Career Development platform, as part of the Space Education & Professional Development team. The Career Development Co-Leads will be expected to manage and curate job opportunities within the space industry through SGAC channels (webpage, newsletters, Slack group). They will also receive support and work closely with the Space EPD Communication & PR Managers to promote and highlight career development opportunities. They will also have the opportunity to propose and drive their own short term initiatives in collaboration with other Space EPD teams (SpaceGen Academy, Mentoring Program) and can expect to receive support from the Space EPD Coordinators.

In summary, their duties will include but not be limited to:

• Preparing for the launch and maintaining of a space-focused job board featuring early-career opportunities within the space industry

• Leading and managing a team to curate, strategize and execute on opportunities and collaborations to provide relevant opportunities for the SGAC memberbase

• Managing the #jobs-board channel in the SGAC slack group with over 1000 members

• Working with the Space EPD Communications & PR Managers to publish newsletters, promote job listings and other career opportunities for SGAC members

• Understanding the career aspirations of SGAC members, and collaborating with the SpaceGen Academy Team and Mentoring Team on career development webinars, special events and course development etc.

• Working with the the Co-Coordinators and other SGAC teams to explore potential partnerships for the jobs board

Estimated time commitment: On average 3 – 5 hours per week

Necessary Qualifications

  • SGAC membership: registration on the SGAC website and below 34 years of age at the time of appointment
  • • Be a citizen of a United Nations Member State
  • • Be between 18 and 35 years old during the appointment
  • • Demonstrate leadership or strong teamwork experience in seeing a project (of at least 6 months) through from start to end
  • • Possess good communication skills in English and preferably in other United Nations official languages
  • • Possess a basic understanding of SGAC and its space education initiatives (e.g. Mentoring Program)
  • • To have experience in a voluntary organisation. Experience in space education is helpful but not essential.
  • • Have the necessary time commitment to lead and develop this platform
  • • Ability to set realistic, quantifiable goals and execute • Has used Slack (preferred), MS Teams or DiscordBenefits

Space EPD team members are appointed for a term of two years and may serve two consecutive terms. The position will have a probationary period of 3 months.
