SGAC is looking for an SGAPP Coordinator

The Space Generation Advocacy & Policy Platform (SGAPP) is seeking a new Coordinator to coordinate the policy & advocacy activities of SGAC. The Platform is led by two Policy & Advocacy Coordinators with the assistance of a number of officers, and is composed of specialised divisions for policy and advocacy. The Coordinators are selected by the SGAC Chairs for a term of two years and are entrusted with the management of the Platform. This document outlines the responsibilities and benefits associated with this position.

Responsibilities

The Coordinators are responsible for directing the policy & advocacy activities of SGAC. This is an executive, unpaid, remote position reporting directly to the SGAC Chairs. The core responsibilities of SGAPP’s coordinators include:

  • Develop and update, in consultation with the Executive Committee of SGAC, the Policy & Advocacy Strategy (PAS) of SGAC;
  • Execute the PAS by establishing specialised policy and advocacy divisions for the development of united space policy positions and SGAC policy overviews;
  • Direct and support the activities of the specialised policy and advocacy divisions;
  • Review, in consultation with the Executive Committee of SGAC, the deliverables produced by the divisions and approve them on behalf of the Platform;
  • As appropriate, submit the documents outlining united space policy positions to the SGAC Chairs and RCs for receiving the endorsement of the organisation;
  • At the request of the SGAC Chairs, and subject to the availability of sufficient time and resources, direct and support SGAC policy and advocacy activities within areas of strategic importance for the organisation, in accordance with the PAS;
  • Provide updates to the SGAC Chairs about the progress of the Platform.

Necessary Qualifications and Skills

  • SGAC membership: registration on the SGAC website and 33 years of age or less at the moment of the application
  • Demonstrated high level expertise and experience in space policy
  • Excellent understanding of space policy trends and dynamics
  • Familiarity with SGAC mission, objectives and structure
  • Business/professional fluency in English
  • Ability to respond quickly and efficiently to emails is vital
  • Strong attention to detail is essential
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as in multicultural, multidisciplinary teams
  • Proven leadership and team-management skills 
  • Education or professional experience in policy, law, or related field

Estimated time commitment: this position is for 2 years, with the possibility of renewals. The workload for this position varies according to the SGAPP yearly calendar  volunteering and can foresee between 5 to 10 hours of SGAC work per week.

Location: As with all SGAC positions, meetings and work will be conducted virtually. Communication skills and ability to respond in a timely manner are vital.
