Dear SGAC Community,

The safety of our event attendees is our top priority and we have been monitoring the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation carefully.

The 71st International Astronautical Congress – The CyberSpace Edition will take place in your homes and offices around the world during 12 – 14 October 2020. Please make sure to mark those dates in your calendar and stay tuned for additional details on the programme and logistics for the event in the upcoming weeks. SGAC will be hosting a side-event to the CyberSpace Edition online, more details to come soon. Stay tuned!

The new dates for the 72nd International Astronautical Congress, IAC 2021 have been fixed. The IAC 2021 will take place in Dubai, U.A.E., from 25 – 29 October 2021. Please also mark these important dates in your calendar.  (refer: Letter from IAF President).

As the Space Generation Congress runs in conjunction with the IAC, this means SGC 2020 will not be held in Dubai this year. The Space Generation Congress 2021 will be hosted in Dubai, U.A.E., from 21 – 23 October 2021.

The Space Generation Congress (SGC) is the annual meeting of the Space Generation Advisory Council always held in conjunction with the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) at the same hosting Country. The Delegates are ~150 top university students and young professionals with a passion for space. They are selected with a highly competitive application process open to our Space Generation international network. With SGC, SGAC aims to promote the voice of the next generation of space sector leaders on the topic of international space development.

Space Generation Congress Goals

The Space Generation Congress (SGC) is SGAC’s annual meeting in support of the United Nations (UN) Programme on Space Applications. Top university students and young professionals with a passion for space will travel from all around the globe to attend three days of the 19th SGC. Up to 150 delegates will enjoy an inspiring and resourceful engagement with their peers at the congress, held in Dubai, on October 8 – 10 2020, prior to the 71st International Astronautical Congress (IAC). Delegates will gain exposure to perspectives on space issues from the world’s leading space organisations, including: the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS). In demonstrating the symbiotic relationship, leaders from these space organisations gained fresh, innovative and bold perspectives from the incoming space generation. Several sponsors along with a committee of volunteers are supporting the preparation of the 19th SGC. Without  the support of SGAC’s dedicated volunteers and the continual support of our partners and sponsors, the 19th SGC would not be possible.

In particular, one of the priorities of SGC2020 is to plan the event with a particular concern for environmental, economic and social issues based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This will involve sustainable development principles and practices at all levels of the event planning, including reduction of food waste, reduction of water waste, gender equity, plastic free utilization, use of public transportation and increase of public awareness and engagement with sustainability principles and sustainable living.
