The North, Central America and the Caribbean (NCAC) Space Leaders Award aims to recognize SGAC members for their contributions to the space field in the NCAC region as well as to provide opportunities to talented individuals to attend the NCAC Space Generation Workshop, held June 24-25th 2022, in Houston, USA.

Description
Embracing diversity is the cornerstone of SGAC’s principles. The goal of the North, Central America and the Caribbean Space Leaders Award is to provide an opportunity for interaction between members of the space sector with diverse geographic and professional backgrounds. The NCAC-SLA provides funding support for the attendance of international delegates who bring unique and insightful firsthand perspectives to the North, Central America and the Caribbean Space Generation Workshop.

Award
The winners will receive an award in order to attend the North, Central America and the Caribbean Space Generation Workshop. This award will provide total or partial reimbursement to cover economy airfare, accommodation, and visa costs for 4 awardees to attend the NCAC-SGW. The total award of $4000 (USD), will be split between the 4 awardees, to account for differing travel expenses based on where the awardees are located. The individual amounts will be communicated to the awardees.
The awardees will be presented with a certificate of the award during the Space Generation Workshop.
How to Apply
You can apply via the Scholarships Submission Form (accessible only when logged into your SGAC account). Please note – due to COVID-19, we ask that you apply only if you believe you will be able to physically attend the events in the United States June 24-25 2022.
Your submission should follow the competition guidelines below.
Scholarship Guidelines
Eligibility
- Participants must be eligible SGAC members (registered on the SGAC website) between the ages of 18 and 35 years as of the 21st of March 2022.
- Scholarship judges are ineligible for the award.
- The Organising Team of the event is eligible for the award.
Submission
- The language of all submissions must be English.
- Applicants will submit their application through the NCAC-SGW Space Leaders Award application form.
- CVs can be submitted via Word document or pdf file uploaded in the application form.
- All submissions must be made by the April 30th, 2022, 23:59 UTC. Any submissions after the deadline will not be considered.
- Please be aware that you need to separately apply as a delegate through the NCAC-SGW delegate registration form.
Responsibilities of the Winners
The winners shall:
- Attend the North, Central America and the Caribbean Space Generation Workshop in its entirety
- Support the running of the North, Central America and the Caribbean Space Generation Workshop (as moderator or rapporteur)
- Contribute to finalizing the North, Central America and the Caribbean Space Generation Workshop report
- Submit a short report (1 page excluding pictures) and a short video (1 minute) describing his or her experience at regional North, Central America and the Caribbean Space Generation Workshop for inclusion on the SGAC website, newsletter or social media and that of our partners
Reimbursement
- The award will be paid out after the North, Central America and the Caribbean Space Generation Workshop, and upon fulfillment of all requirements in a suitable manner as determined by the scholarship coordinators, including any report submissions and submissions of expense claims. It will be paid out no later than 30 days after fulfillment of all responsibilities.
- In case applicants or the winning author receive funding for North, Central America and the Caribbean Space Generation Workshop by any other organisation, the Scholarships Coordinators shall be informed. If the applicants don’t inform the Scholarships Coordinators, SGAC holds the right to not reimburse the winning author. SGAC aims to reduce the number of double scholarships and will work with the winners to develop a solution in these cases.
- Applicants are advised to not engage in any expenses until they have formal confirmation that the competition has been awarded. The SGAC is not liable for any expenses incurred by applicants in any case where a competition is not awarded, or in excess of the value of the awarded grant.
Copyright and Intellectual Property
- By submitting an entry, applicants agree to permit the SGAC to use their names, affiliations, and headshot photo in connection with the scholarship. This also applies to the essay that is submitted: portions of this essay could be used for promotional purposes (the authors, of course, will be credited for the content).
- Copyright of the submitted entry shall remain with the contestants. However, by submitting an entry all contestants agree that SGAC and all affiliated organizers are granted non-exclusive reproduction rights regarding all submitted papers. SGAC and all affiliated organizers may also present ideas and findings generated by this competition at relevant conferences.
Liability
- Organisers shall not be responsible in the event the North, Central America and the Caribbean Space Generation Workshop 2022 is cancelled. SGAC will not reimburse the award winner, even if he/she has already incurred expenses.
- Organisers shall not be responsible in the event that the award winner fails to attend the North, Central America and the Caribbean Space Generation Workshop is unable to under extenuating circumstances; in that case the award offer shall become void.
- Organisers shall not be responsible in the event that the award winner cannot obtain any necessary travel documents; if they are required but not obtained, the award offer shall become void.
- The award is not transferable to another event or individual.
Evaluation
The assessment of applications for the North, Central America and the Caribbean Space Leaders Award will be evaluated by a panel comprised of SGAC Chairs, Executive Director, Regional Coordinators, Scholarship Team Members, and the North, Central America and the Caribbean Space Generation Workshop Manager and Deputy Manager.
